and we begin this evening with the latest on the department of justice and new york city mayor eric adams. earlier this week, the doj ordered the interim u.s. attorney for the southern district of new york to drop the charges against adams. well, today that u.s. attorney danielle sassoon get to know her name resigned after refusing to drop the charges, and she wrote a bombshell letter to attorney general pam bondi accusing adams attorneys of pushing for a quid pro quo, suggesting adams would be in his position to help the department's immigration agenda in exchange for dismissing the charges against him. an attorney for adams denied there was any quid pro quo. however, after sassoon resigned, the doj tried to move the case to the department's public integrity unit down in washington. since then, at least five other officials have resigned. mayor adams has maintained he did nothing wrong. and so far this evening, no comment from the justice department. they don't need to. they got what they wanted. this all comes as adams is preparing to let ice agents into rikers island, which is a major

well, what if eric adams had said, i'm actually not on board with the immigration agenda? by emil bove logic, then no dismissal in that case. and so this is what danielle sassoon means in her letter when she says it's a quid pro quo. the exchange is right out there. it's overt and it's overtly political. it's the worst thing that can happen to doj. >> so i mean, what happens now? do they? does emil bove and the department of justice in d.c. just hire somebody else who will sign these documents? >> this is not over because, as cara said, doj has to find somebody. they'll find somebody. there's 6000 prosecutors. beauvais himself will sign it, but doj has to submit a paper to the court saying we want to dismiss. here's why. but then the judge has to sign off. i'm telling you right now, a judge is not going to sign off on this. i don't i'm not big on predictions. there's no way a judge signs off on this. then you get into a situation. what happens? because doj is going to say, all right, judge, but we're not sending anyone to prosecute the case. so it's going to be a showdown
