eric chemi is here with more. good to see you. >> good to see you, sue. >> lay out what's going on. >> there's two different things going on. in one set of documents they filed, it's about bribing coaches to get the college athletes to pick certain financial advisers and agents when they leave college and go pro. the other version is when they're coming into college, paying the right families to get them to pick certain schools because those schools are sponsored by adidas, let's say. >> why would the coaches risk doing something like this? >> coaches make a lot of money in college. not just the head coaches, but the assistant coaches can make hundreds of thousands of dollars. and in a lot of cases, an assistant coach's job is not there to coach. you're there to recruit, that's your job. you have to get the players in the door. >> that's a good point. what about these companies? >> one of their employees is alleged to do it, not adidas the company, but one of their employees. >> what's going to happen on their fro

. >> eric chemi is back with us with the big impact this could have on the university. eric, it's great to see you as always, thanks for rejoining us tonight. how big an impact do you think this will have on the university? >> so you've got to look at a lot of factors here. coach pitino, there's a reason he's on leave and not fired, technically. he has a $50 million contract he just signed. that goes on for many years to come. they may owe $44 million as part of a buyout. that's big chump change. that's why he hasn't been fired yet. that's $44 million. they have a $160 million sponsorship deal with adidas that doesn't even start until next year. and so adidas could just say, you know what, this isn't what we signed up for, we're not interested in a school with fbi allegations, they may pull out. if you don't have the coach or the sponsorship, this is a program that makes $100 million a year overall in sports. what does that do to the university budget? >> the connection to adidas, explain to me again, it starts next year. so that's future revenue that this school would b

rules violations yesterday's fbi arrests of four coaches may be the catalyst the organization needs eric chemi more. >> reporter: later today, louisville announced it had placed on leave rick pitino and tom church while the school sorts out their employment status this after yesterday's arrest in the bribery investigation involving at least six different colleges and a senior marketing official at adidas the ncaa says it finds these charges disturbing and has no tolerance for the behavior but will the ncaa do anything about it, given how much money is at stake? consider just adidas and louisville last month they signed a ten-year, $160 million sponsorship extension. that's with their coach's history. pitino has had several run-ins with ncaa rules and kept getting one big job after another. nike and under armour each have their own massive deals with schools. college sports brings in $10 billion a year, much of that coming from television partners. that makes it tough to want to stop the system. experts have said the ncaa itself is understaffed and not fully set up to investigate all these crim

looking into nike's youth basketball program and the widening of a bribery scandal rocking the ncaa eric chemikelly, two adidas employees were arrested on tuesday. with the case now out in the open, they've been able to go after more targets according to many reports, the government served nike a subpoena to look into its elite youth basketball program nike says they firmly believe in compliance with laws and fair play in all sports there are no allegations against nike in the complaints and we are committed to cooperating with any government investigation into this matter one of the adidas employees arrested the other day had previously been director of nike's elite youth basketball program. three of the assistant coaches arrested work for nike sponsored schools. the original government complaint described the wigged for one particular player, describing how adidas might have to raise their payment because there was possibly more money available to attend a school from a rival shoe company. most people believe the shoe company is nike. at the rate this case is going now, it likely will become
