joining me this morning from salt lake city, utalk mitt romney's senior adviser, eric fehrnstrom.nd here in the studio, stephanie cutter, who is the deputy campaign manager for the obama team. i want to start with a question to both of you. politico reported this week your campaigns are spent all week, every week strafing each other on twitter. given the opportunity to go big, politico says you go small. they say romney won't give details, obama won't give out an agenda. mark mckinnon is quoted as saying we're in the era of bitter twitter. i guess i would ask you, both-- and eric, i will start with you-- don't you think a presidential campaign should be on a higher local official than that? >> i'll tell you, bob, it's amazing when you think in the last presidential election, there was no twitter. we just view it as another means of communicating. i don't think it sets the tone for the race like the mainstream press does. but what we have noticed is that stories can inc. bait there and propel themselveses into the daily conversation of the campaign. so we want to be part of that. w

here to make the case for their candidates this morning, eric fehrnstrom and stephanie cutter. delay join our regulars, george will and paul krugman. stephanie, let's get to the economy. let me begin with you. right after that jobs report came out on friday, governor romney respond. he said, the president is responsible for the fact that this recession has gone on for so long and hurting so many people, your response? >> the president said it best on friday we're still in a recovery period. over the past 27 months, we have created 4.3 million private sector jobs. the issue is we're not adding jobs fast enough. if you looked at the report on friday, the areas we're doing well is where we can affect policy. manufacturing jobs have continued to rise. that's precisely because, the president stepped in and did what nobody else was willing to do, to save the auto industry. that has had a great impact on the manufacturing line. that report also showed areas that are still hurting. particularly teachers and construction workers. that shows "the wiz" domestic of the president's policies

"the boston globe." in romney's last full year in office, massachusetts grew bies 0.16%. they're saying oh, his last year was so spectacular it averaged out, what happened. what? huh? yeah, the claim that massachusetts under romney ranked 47th out of 50 states in job growth is true. the romney campaign has not disputed its accuracy. if the district of columbia is included. that was 48th. over the four-year period, massachusetts jobs grew by 1.26%, well behind the national meediam of 4.84. >> so he wasn't 47th. >> so no matter how you spin it, it was a crappy record on job creation. one economist quoted here argued romney's frequent argument that unemployment dropped during his ten sewer a false indicator. he said the unemployment rate fell because people were leaving the work force in droves. >> nothing he's proposing to do as president is going to improve jobs. if anything, it will make it worse. >> stephanie: exactly. let's go to sharon real quick i
