eric fisher is the chief meteorologist at our cbs station in boston, wbz. eric? >> reporter: well, scott, we're into historic territory now. we've seen the entire normal winter season worth of snow over the last ten days. some towns totaling more than 60 inches in that time, a record that hasn't been topped before. let's talk about where the storm is tonight. it's just starting to wrap up. we have a few hours yet, still some heavy snow around eastern new england. during the overnight, the whole storm starts the move out to sea. in terms of what's behind after the storm, it's all about the cold. the wind-chill is going subzero during the overnight. tomorrow morning out the door, all across the northeast into the great lakes, subzero wind chills. so bitter air with a deep snowpack on the ground. unfortunately we can't tell you that this is all calming down c because we're watching another storm as we head toward thursday that's going to be another coastal event, bringing heavy snow to the same areas that have seen so much. when you talk about the amount of school a

we know what eric fisher is doing. he's the chief meteorologist of our boston station wbz. eric, what is coming next? >> a lot of winter weather holding tough. winter advisories from 23 states. and look at some of the values out the door tomorrow morning. we're talking 30 below zero but subzero wind chill into tennessee, nashville charlotte atlanta all dealing with the bitter cold. these are the air temperatures for tomorrow morning a hard freeze coming to north florida, subzero temperatures with the fresh snow pack across tennessee and kentucky and record lows are certainly expected here. louisville at jeopardy here, zero is the record low. charlotte, baltimore, all could set records on thursday. for fridays the air moves farther east. 32 the record low in miami and that may fall. we have another winter storm that moves eastward for the weekend. the big threat here-- additional weight to snow pack where we've already seen dozens of roof collapses. >> pelley: eric fisher be wbz, eric, thank you very much. the winter that has created so many problems has also created some bea

meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz is following the two storm systems. >> well, another shot of cold that's been the theme lately. an arctic front moving toward the coastline this morning. we're looking at bitterly cold windchills well below the 20s stretching toward the east coast. places like raleigh, d.c., new york city, boston looking at subzero weather by the time you head home, another bitter shot. where's the warm air? plenty of it in the middle of the country. look at denver. 61 this afternoon. salt lake city, to 65. near 60 in seattle and 80s into parts of arizona and southern california. we're also watching a storm on the west coast. a big curl of tropical moisture that's feeding in, and the fire hose is going to be on over the next several days. rain beginning now. we'll see plumes of it moving in friday into saturday. directed at california and into oregon in particular. so from the bay area to norcal, some big rain totals here coming off one of the driest januarys ever recorded. it is much needed, but there could be some loblized edd edd edd -- localized flo

meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz has more on the latest winter storm. >> well, yet another southern storm under way here as we head through the midweek. winter storm warnings stretching from texas right across to north carolina. this is going to put down some pretty significant snow. p it start this morning. snow breaking out around the dallas area and i a cross southern arkansas. by this evening it's tracking its way across mississippi, alabama, and georgia right around the commute time. birmingham, atlanta, right on the line. we could be talking significant snow in the city. certainly just north of both of those metros. and heading overnight the snow overspreads over north carolina. we'll see some of the biggest totals. it will be brushing the southern jersey area before it moves out to sea. snow totals, we start to see this dark blue. we're talking up to 6 inches of snow potentially. that's going to cause travel probables. you notice it comes right through the northern parts of mississippi, alabama, and georgia. here we could be talking over a half foot and certa

let's have a look at the forecast now from eric fisher, chief meteorologist at our boston station wbz. eric, what's next? >> reporter: well, scott, we've seen very significant snow for many areas here with this storm on president's day bringing up to a foot of snow just outside st. louis, eight inches ine lexington plus a lot of freezing rain, memphis area and across southern tennessee causing a lot of issues. this snow moving up through the d.c. area tonight bringing some of the most significant snow they've seen there in quite a while, and some additionalve snowfall in southern new england where we've seen over 90 inches over the last three weeks.ot biggest totals tonight movingdd across virginia, the jackpot, at a 12 to 18 additional inches. behind all this, arctic cold. it's not just the northeast but all of the central and eastern united states. as you look toward the mid-week, high temps in chicago. same story in minneapolis and st. louis stuck in the teens. that cold air moves into the southeast, as well, and florida,rt northern florida, highs may not get out of the 30s. scott?

. >>> meteorologist eric fisher of wbz is following the storm and tracking the record-breaking snow totals. >> reporter: we have seen unprecedented snowfall in the boston area. we've broken records for 5 to 40-day totals. and the greatest 40-day total all-time was broken in just 17 days. unbelievable blitz of snow that's moved through. take a look at some of the totals from this storm. and the biggest totals have been in boston and the cities just off toward the south. the south shore, up to two feet of snow. by the time all is said and done early on in the morning, we could see a couple of those up around 30 inches. unbelievable. we are tracking another storm that's in the pipeline. this is for late thursday and into thursday night. if it develops quick enough and far enough we could, we could have another very significant snowstorm. a little farther east it's still plowable but more manageable. and really there is no where else to get a major snowstorm. everyone is aware we could have big totals. behind it we've got the cold. so elgts melting here. and this cold shot heads due south. we'
