eric fisher of our boston station wbz is following the severe weather on both coasts. >> whell, it is the first full day of spring, but it is a mess out there stretching from the southern atlantic. this is going to bring a thump of heavy know along the 95 corridor throughout the day to early thursday morning before it moves out. it looks like the full brunt will be felt in western maryland to around new york city. a mixture of ice last night and snow moving in today. meanwhile on the west coast, another major storm system, flash flood watches out in southern california, this one a particularly dangerous storm. 5 to 10 inches of rain in the foothill. especially in recent burn areas, mudslides and debris flows look very likely. we call this the pineapple express. it will be moving into southern and central california through thursday, also significant mountain snow. snow levels are pretty high up around 89,000 feet. locally 3 to 5 feet of additional snow coming down through the sierras. i'm meteorologist eric fisher for cbs news. >>> well, authorities in southern california have ordered

meteorologist eric fisher is following this storm. eric, this storm is different mowp bad is it and what's the timing? >> well, this storm is not quite as potent as what we saw last week, but if we didn't have last week, we could consider it, certainly, a major nor'easter. just getting developed near the coastline tonight. major storm warnings out from philadelphia across all the interior section of new england, as well as new york state and some of the same places that saw big snow last week will see big snow again with this storm system. that rain-snow line will be right around the i-95 corridor as it races off to the north and east throughout the day tomorrow. our biggest snow amounts will be just outside of 95, and we could see a couple of feet of snowfall again in new york state, some of those towns five feet of snow in five days. we zoom in a little closer, take a look at some of the sphaeps new york city on the age, 4-8 inches. 5-10 in hartford. 4-8 in fill. boston 1-3 just west of the city. we're going to see strong winds, and

meteorologist eric fisher is tracking all of this. eric? >> reporter: very busy times here, jeff. as we look at the weather, a blizzard full-fledged across the northern plains and upper s dwest tonight. very strong winds up and down the plains with high-wind warnings as well as wind tavisories. gusts over 60mph at times. blizzard warnings in red across uguth dakota and eastern parts of montana. heavy snow has been swinging through minneapolis. now there are winter storm watches up across all the northeast corridor for what this storm will become down the road. this energy will swing down across the appalachians, become a nor'easter, and move right along the shoreline once again. this is a colder storm than what we had last week, so big snow totals just northwest of the i- 95 corridor. over a foot of snow looks likely. some of those heavier totals could make their way into new york city as well as hartford with this one. and more strong winds, not quite as intense as last week's storm, but any strong winds, more rough surf, more coastal flooding, jeff, is not what anyone needs alon
