it was not hard for john boehner to decide how to vote on that. eric cantor, that's right, eric cantor voted for it. eric cantor voted for a 90% income tax increase. he voted with dennis kucinich. he voted with charlie rangel on a tax rate increase. the thing he is now claiming is the single most destructive thing congress can possibly do, increase taxes. john boehner had been dealing with eric cantor for a while before i got to deal with eric cantor for a few minutes that day. so boehner knew what i just discovered that morning, that cantor was an incompetent amateur who deserved noplace in congressional leadership. cantor has proven himself to be exactly that in the budget negotiations with the president. the president has obviously recognized from the start that a rank amateur was sitting across the table from him, and the president has played cantor's childish reactions to the democrats' full advantage. the next time you hear eric cantor lying about all tax increases being harmful to the economy, and downright evil, always remember this. >> congres

pictures right now, you can see the house gallery there where john boehner, speaker of the house, will be coming in with kevin mccarthy and ericantor, the other members of the leaders, and they will be announcing the game plan from here on out. they will have a couple hours of debate, then the vote later today on john boehner's proposal. he clearly has now whipped up the votes after a tongue lashing he gave to his house members, particularly those 87 freshmen yesterday at their caucus meeting. john harwood is cnbc's chief washington correspondent and joins us now. in earlier conversations, i was talking to mike crapo, then to chris van hollen. crapo, as you know, a member of the gang of six, was talking about some deal down the road in the next 48 hours, let's say, that could combine the cuts in boehner and harry reid once boehner's bill goes down in the senate on that procedural vote tonight, assuming it passes the house. which would have really hard triggers, hard enforcement down the road, and that would get them past this immediate deadline. is that what you're hearing also from the white house, this would be acceptable to

those republicans that are the republican leadership those that are the most vocal the john boehner the eric cantor as the mitch mcconnells they're not part of the new breed these are the same guys that did raise the debt ceiling a number of times under the bush administration and suddenly act like this is just a proposed dress idea that they could never imagine doing it i did when i was referring to. you that you are i'm sure you're as i say i got me the leadership here is right the people who are supposedly in charge of their party but i want to get back to these to these ratings because you said the who cares about the ratings well internationally how do investors how do those that are buying u.s. treasuries these ratings have to mean something to that. something generally in their chores of job i actually. think you're exactly right it's fine to dump their tree but not reach a lady who got a serious point is the biggest. why it's still uncertain leisure travel becomes intractable and i guarantee it will it's three to five years you know yes it does. and it should be. a shocker say that.
