eric shaw says. seeing and smelling is believing unhealthy air hanging over the south bay is a threat to those sensitive to environmental changes. i could immediately smell the smoke, so i closed my window. we have the worst air quality. the smoke's source is hundreds of miles north of the bay area, but south winds are souring conditions here. dr. craig clements says the most the smoke is in the lowest layer, about 1000ft deep. and that's why you can't see anything in the bay area right now because all that smoke is concentrated pretty close to the surface. it's also the reason why the aqi is going through the roof. some schools stopping short of mandating students stay indoors. instead, they're modifying outdoor activities. we do a different levels of modified pe to keep the kids safe, so it could be anything from reducing cardio vascular output to staying indoors. so we'll adjust both youth athletics after school and pe during the day. the x's and o's of avoiding unhealthy air get a little more com
