i'm eric thomas in for dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. that san francisco police officer is expected to be okay. it started at everglade drive and slope boulevard on the western edge of the city after an hour long man hunt it ended in a shootout at 27th avenue near strong grove park. >> we begin our coverage with sergio with how police managed to take the gunman into custody. sergio? >> reporter: we know that when police officers spotted the man there was an exchange of gun pier. it was blocks from where the initial exchange of gunfire happened. this is next to an elementary school that's the sound of a flashbang grenade. it is clear police were using everything at their disposal to take this man into custody. we watched as the tactile team moved in and responded to parkside square and bob cheney field. four gunshots and then a person on a stretcher was carted away and loaded into an ambulance. we watched as he was rushed off scene. i talked with one neighbor about how this all went down. >> i was walking to the market and thought i would

eric thomas has the night off. the death toll from the crash stands at 13 with 31 others injured. the chp says the bus driver is among those who were killed. the collision happened early this morning on interstate 10 near palm springs. the bus was traveling towards los angeles and was about an hour into the trip. many of those killed were sitting toward the front of the bus asleep when the crash happened. it slammed into a big rig trailer traveling much slower. the force was so violent, the front end of the bus was completely surrounded by the truck. >> when it hit the back of the big rig of the trailer, the trailer itself entered about 15 feet into the bus. so you can see that it was a substantial impact. >> the highway patrol says the tour bus was operated by usa holiday based out of los angeles. inspections of the company's only bus were done annually at least for the past three years. no problems were found. the ntsb has sent investigators to the crash site. the chp has also launched their own investigation. in arizona 17 people were taken to the hospital after a massive pileu

eric thomas has the night off. tonight the death toll from the crash stands at 13, with 31 others injured. the chp says the bus driver is among those who were killed. the collision happened early this morning on interstate 10 near palm springs. the bus was traveling towards los angeles from a casino and was an hour into the trip. many of those killed were sitting towards the front of the bus, asleep when the crash happened. the highway patrol says the bus slammed into a big rig trailer that was traveling much slower. the force was so violent the front end of the bus became enveloped in the truck. >> when it hit the back of the big rig, the trailer, the trailer itself entered about 15 feet into the bus. so, you can see that it was a substantial impact. >> the highway patrol says the tour bus was operated by u.s.a. holiday based out of los angeles. inspections of the company's only bus were done annually at least for the past three years. no problems were found. the ntsb has sent investigators to the crash site. the

good evening, i'm eric thomas. thank you for joining us. the kayaker was in the water in south san francisco off oyster point. we have developing details. >> reporter: right now this search is being coordinated by the fire battalion chief sitting inside that red suv, and in the darkness there are a number of rescue boats from post sides of the bay involved in this search. they're searching for that kayaker who was reported missing this evening just before 6:00 p.m. >> right now we're confident we have a lot of resources out there and a lot of well trained folks with a lot of good technology. we're hoping for a good outcome. >> reporter: at one point there were eight rescue motor boats and two aircraft. they're searching a pretty extensive area stretching from candle stick point in san francisco all the way down to the san mateo bridge in foster city and beyond. earlier this evening a coast guard helicopter spotted what the crews believe is the missing person's kayak, but there is still no sign of that missing man. it's not yet clear how lon
