i'm erica hill in for erin burnett. breaking news tonight. donald trump kicked off another state's 2024 ballot. maine's democratic secretary of state just moments ago issuing a decision which bars trump from that state's ballot. she cites the insurrection ban. the decision can be appealed in state court. an appeal that is almost guaranteed given trump's legal team had already demanded the maine secretary of state recuse herself from the matter, pointing specifically to tweets she wrote saying trump had engaged in insurrection and should have been impeached. trump's attorney said she showed bias by prejudging the matter. this follows the same decision and michigan, minnesota, arizona, and new hampshire. the colorado republican party saying it has asked the supreme court to overturn that colorado ruling. many legal experts expect the supreme court will settle this issue for the entire country. paula reid is "outfront" with more on this. i know we are all going through this right now. what more are you learning? what do you see here in this deci

erica, you have spent your adult life trying to follow your american dream, standing up to whoever wasy of people's american dream. trump has a political career where he's said all kinds of things, when you hear this latest comment, what do you hear, erica? >> dehumanization. i think i hear someone who is actively trying to continue to dehumanize immigrants, people of color, and it's dangerous. it is dangerous. we have seen the consequences of this type of rhetoric in the past. we have seen it not just in policies, right, he has enacted the former president, but also he has inspired people to commit terrible violence against immigrants, against people of color. i mean, we cannot forget what happened in el paso, and you know, the reasons why this person went and did everything that he did to, you know, end the lives and kill so many people because of the type of rhetoric that trump has been using against immigrants. this is absolutely dangerous, and as an immigrant, it makes me so concerned of our lives and our safety in this country. >> stewart, what is donald trump saying when he talk

affects newborn babies and possible birth defects caused by exposure to fentanyl while in the womb, ericaoking into this. first, if you can, talk about this link that doctors are finding between fentanyl and birth defects. how rare is it? >> reporter: the good news is, morgan, it does seem to be extremely rare. right now only ten babies identified with this new syndrome, possibly a handful of others who might qualify. let's take a look at so much the birth defekts that they're seeing. there's cleft pallet that doctors are seeing, thumbs not fully formed. joints may not be fully developed. there's a genetic syndrome that mirrors these defects, however none of these babies have that genetic syndrome, which is why doctors are turning their attention to fentanyl use and i want to be clear this was illicit fentanyl use during pregnancy, so drugs purchased on the street not under the supervision of doctors. >> you mentioned this is illicit fentanyl used it's also used in a clinical setting particularly in childbirth. can you talk about why these effects are different? >> that's one of the confo
