erica gonzalez has the information we're just getting in. what's new. >>> before i get to the details of how this all started, let me tell you the latest information is that there is now an engineer on the scene. you're seeing live pictures again from this apartment fire this morning. now an engineer on the scene because there is grave concern over the structural concern for everybody that lives in and around this neighborhood. firefighters say they got the call. this is about midnight our time and could see the flames. they've never seen anything like it. flames consumed all 24 floors of this building. this is what it looked like last night. people heard screaming from the windows and now we're learning that deaths reported and at least 50 people have been reported injured. the apartment had just been upgraded last year, but residents have long been complaining about fire safety standards and now seeing these incredibly dramatic pictures. people there on the scene expecting the worst, but hoping for the very best. back over to you. >>> also

i'm erica gonzalez. firefighters say it is one of the biggest fires northwest d.c. has seen in a decade and tig darcy spencer is live in pea body with the latest. darcy? >> reporter: last night at 11:00 we were talking about how fortunate it was that no one was seriously injured or killed in this fire. it turned out that was not the case. take a look here behind me, this is what's left of this burned-out building. investigators telling us today that they found the body up here on the third floor at the very top earlier today. >> anybody else out? >> grab him. >> reporter: firefighters rescued dozens of people, even small children in the early morning darkness. the flames tore through the peabody street apartments at 3:00 in the morning when many were asleep. the fire chief initially said saturday they believed everyone had survived. >> we were able to get back in there and do a primary search, a secondary search, and they got everybody out of the building. >> on sunday a man's body was discovered by the top-floor apartment where the fire started. >> we were aware la
