here's erik wasson with more.got the president's budget and it didn't balance the federal deficit within 10 years. the republican budget is supposed to. erik: the republican budget claims a balance in 10 years by cutting $5.4 trillion in spending in future years. what really counts is the next fiscal year. budgets are more of a policy statement. in the next fiscal year, where trump was calling for $54 billion in cuts to domestic agencies, the republicans are for a $5 million cut. they are looking to increase military spending by $72 billion. not big deficit reduction in the first year. republicans are very eager to -- thisof this budget is the first step towards comprehensive tax reform. ill in theare b senate -- they want to move on to a tax cut that would be popular with the base. likee: what are the optics when the gop fails miserably in its fourth attempt to repeal a law? erik: it will be very difficult. the house republicans are planning to move this budget in committee tomorrow. of chairwoman, diane black te

erik: those are the things in your control. there are some angst not in your control, the economy -- things not individual, the economy. which variable to you find, whether it's gdp growth, gas prices, consumer confidence -- which is most directly correlated to the number of people coming in the door? steve: we see consumer confidence is the ultimate barometer. many of those other aspects feed into it. how much it costs to fill up their car, they are all contributors to the company. erik: is it predictive or does it lag? steve: there are different ways you can gauge the consumer. erik: you see consumer confidence rising. does that portend a higher guest count? steve: up until we've lunch delivery, which i'm sure we will chat about, as we did customers out and about. if they have money in their pockets, they are going out to the theater, going out shopping, and we benefit from that activity. strong economic activity from the consumer does play into immediate success as well. erik: you mentioned moments ago the importance of taki

erik: anything else?nium market people have to have their eyes on in new york. erik: also oversupplied. up with was a big run the millennial appetite for the urban core to build class a apartments in most every major city in the united states. a lot of those investors thought that was a defensive anstruction project and defensive cash flow profile. we are starting to see a lot of oversupply in some markets. to thet all comes down right price. would you look at each of those opportunities -- new york hospitality, high-end condominium primarily in manhattan but also class a presumably rental units across those were and say high-quality assets you would want to own at the right price. if you like nobody is ever going to fill those spaces. yes and no. at the right price we are buyers of anything. the examples we just talked about are examples of what i would call dislocations in markets. there is an otherworldly traffic in that is more thematically focused where there is more equilibrium in the marketplace we

erik: does that concern you?: it does, but if you are looking for a big growth slowed down in a business, that is a significant fall off that has already occurred. erik: this chart helps to illustrate. gdp, itchina's nominal takes several years ago, and there's the crash beginning to stabilize. europe, it recently, i think that is why you see better trends from the global economy and some is reflecting china coming up the bottom. a surge.t looking for we are saying it is stabilizing at a lower level and you will see that in the revenues of companies. erik: let's talk about europe. in your research, there is this idea that according to the quantitative model, the european economy could grow faster than the u.s. economy in the not-too-distant future. henry: we try to do both. we also do a lot of quantitative work to see if there is a disconnect or match. last 1.5 years, are quantitative models have shown strong growth. the single biggest factor in that is monetary policy, and that is what we saw in the u.s., when j
