i'm erika gonzalez. neighbors stunned to learn a young woman killed her mother and turned the gun on herself. darcy spencer talked to people in the community and joins us live from mclaine tonight. darci. >> reporter: erika we are here on dean drive. this is the house where the tragedy unfolded yesterday afternoon. the fairfax county police cruiser still parked in the driveway. neighbors telling me until recently there was a seven-year-old girl living in the house. they were relieved to find out she was safe. neighbors confirmed this is a a contractor killed in her home by her daughter. they confirm this is the daughter, helen hargan, who police say pulled the trigger shooting her mom and taking her own life. police received a call saying someone may have been killed inside the home. when they forced their way in they found the bodies. for a second day fairfax county police continue their investigation into the murder/suicide on dean drive. they brought out bags of evidence. a police dog sniffed around t

. >> reporter: well, erika, prince george's police still have a murder mystery on their hands tonight. in fact they still have not received any missing persons reports. one neighbor tells me tonight she heard a car drive off at a high rate of speed early this morning, and late tonight i spoke to the body. residents in this quiet riverdale heights neighborhood were awoken early sunday with some startling news. >> well, one of the neighbors that live around the corner here came and knock on my door this morning and told me there were police out here and they found a body on the street. >> reporter: i spoke to the man who discovered the body. he provided news 4 with this photoy. we blurred out the victim's body, but it does show medics on scene. >> it's really scary. >> reporter: police say they have no idea who the man was, where he was killed, or how he ended up here. but they do know he was murdered. he had suffered trauma to his body. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. >> i was just thinking how did that happen here? >> reporter: marty newhouse the head of the association >> rep

>> erika, that's right. we just got heren i want to set the scene for you. we're on luzby's lane, brandywine is a remote section of the southern part of the county. this is the house where the shooting happened. police are still trying to figure out what led up to this crime. they said they were called here about 12:30 this afternoon, in the 12600 block. once police got here, they found a man inside suffering from gunshot wounds. he was pronounced dead right here at the house. police say the man who was shot and killed had broken into the home and had exchanged gunfire with the occupants inside the home. a second suspect was also involved in this. the second suspect got away. one of the occupants was also injured in this exchange of gunfire. but he is expected to be okay. now, we're still working to try to find out additional information, again from prince george's county pe. it's very active. they're telling us it was not a random crime, but we're waiting to find out what the exact motive was. back to you. >> darcy spencer in brandywine, thank you. >>> new
