my name is erika demon and i'm an artist working in photography. i just wanted to say something about pier 24. i call it the pier. it has provided me with so much knowledge and community since my time in san francisco. you know, i've made friends there and they still have an impact on my art practice today. i first came to the institution during a class visit in 2013. i wanted to get in on a class and the class was full and the teacher recommended that i visit her at the institution and i never heard of it before. i was amazed by the access to the work and at no cost. being a student and loving it so much, i visited it two to three times a week. at that point they recognized me and they were like do you want to become an intern here. so, i began interning for them in 2013. really they've given me a platform for my work. after about nine months of being there, i shared my portfolio with the director of the space and he really enjoyed what i was making and therefore they programmed me into a show which was called collected and in 2014 and they helped
