at the live desk, i'm erika gonzalez. >> for now, all the district's 33,000 government workers will stay on the job tomorrow even with a shutdown. mayor gray decided to tap into the emergency funds. the $134 million fund is made up of local dollars already approved to keep the city running two to three weeks. last week, the mayor declared all city workers are essential. the white house has the final say on that. so far, they have not commented on that. >> don't plan to visit monuments or memorials if the government shutsdown. they will barricade them. they will shut off dozens of fountains including the world war ii memorial. the boating community is going to be hit hard. the boathouses along the anacostia and potomac rivers are located on federal land. they will have to close even though they don't employ federal workers. local high schools and colleges that keep their boats at the boathouses are going feel it, too. >> we have put a lot of work in. if they shut down the boathouse, we are out of luck. >> they are in the middle of their fall racing season. if they don't practice, if they

i'm erika gonzalez. >> thank you. >>> the house bill goes one step further than the one rejected by theate. the new provision, it makes health insurance more expensive for members of congress and the people who work were them. >> peter alexander joins us live from the white house. what is the angle here? >> reporter: here is where we stand now. this is more of the game of ping-pong. the senate says no, the house tries again. the latest incarnation as you indicated would force congress members, their staff and white house staff to have to buy their own medical insurance without subsidies and government help. it would force a delay for all individuals who are required to buy their health insurance, specifically those uninsured. it is another nonstarter for the senate. in fact, as soon as the white house heard about it, they said they would veto it. >> where does it end? >> reporter: it's a good question. it doesn't look like it's going to end by midnight. if it does, a lot has to happen in a short period of time. the president is trying to ramp up the pressure on republicans, trying to ma
