let's go live now to meteorologist erika martin. you have your eyes on this massive storm. >> it's increasing in intensity. that's really the important story here. and another big story is an area of high pressure well to the north. that's going to keep everything really where it is positioned. this is why in one moment when i show you hurricane harvey is going to behave, it's going to meander right around the texas shoreline right around the gulf coast. conditions are definitely going to be nasty for the next several days. 10 miles per hour northwesterly. and the central pressure is 941 milliba millibars. you at home might not unthat, but 943 means this is getting a lot stronger. that's what i want to explain to you at home. as we continue hurricane harvey and track it for the next couple days, i'm going to go through wednesday at 1:00 p.m. 40 miles per hour sustained wind speeds. this is still considered a tropical storm. so a lot of punch here packed into this hurricane. so here is the expansiveness of the system. the width of th

erika martin says the elevation there is is only ten feet.t the day as the hours pass. it's now turned into a category three hurricane. so people in texas are bracing for dangerous conditions that could last for days. as harvey heads toward the coast shs the threatening waters are forcing residents to evacuate fast. >> get off the island and get out of dodge because we just don't want anybody to face the flooding event. >> reporter: over facebook nbc 10 spoke to restaurant owner who plans to ride out the storm in corpus christi where he's been a lifelong resident. >> business hasn't been good in the last couple years. i fear that a lot of the busine businesses that will take the brunt of the storm won't get back on their feet. >> reporter: those leaving for higher ground are gassing up, sagg

meteorologist erika martin has your most accurate forecast.l us about the timing and what people can expect when. >> this is pretty much an all-day event for monday. so we have issued a first alert for heavy rain and flooding for the entire day. this does include the i-95 corridor. i don't want to exclude new castle county, you may see one or two isolated thunderstorms. this is an all-day event. this will be issued through tuesday. we can expect lots of rain. this is a slow moving system. nobody will be excluded. there is the potential for localized flooding and flash flooding. radar and sthatellite imagery, are seeing that rain moving in from the southwest. a wider perspective, however. we do have this area of low pressure that is developing. look at how active it is. and look how wide this system really spans all that rain. so it's going to be slow moving by the time all that rain cheers. i would say after midnight on tuesday. so radar and sthit image again, showing the green moving into our area, just starting to skirt along the count yis h

erika martin has the most accurate forecast. really a pleasant evening to be outside tonight. >> that's right, denise, and we're in here. really pleasant right now. very comfortable, not very muggy. today's high temperature 84 in philadelphia. notice we're seeing northwesterly influence. it was a little breezy today but overall a great day. the radar images, seeing clouds moving in from the northwest. otherwise conditions are high and dry, all thanks to the area of high pressure that is building. anytime we get the dome going, we see the clock-wise circulation. this is why we're seeing northwesterly winds moving into our area. we're going to talk more about this area of high pressure that's really our weather maker today because we have rain coming in monday into tuesday. >>> outrage over the dunes project they say is ruining their beaches. a federal judge ruled the dunes project can continue with some conditions. fencing had to be put up around bonds ponds and between the dunes and portheads. but many say they're losing ground.

erika martin has the details for us. >> that's right.nto our neighborhood and trying rain moving in and the threat of thunderstorms. some of them could be strong. satellite and radar image. i want to give you a wider perspective. here we have an area of high pressure. it is weakening. we will start to see active weather moving into our weather soon enough. not much going on. clouds moving into parts of the lehigh county. hourly hour forecast actually picking up on those clouds. this is a closer vupd. notice how they start move into our viewing area. the last time i showed you the rpm this actually favors stronger storms for parts of central delaware and i would say also possibly for burkes county as well. notice here these cells moving just into burkes county. i have shown you the threat of stronger storms moving if this afternoon into this evening. we are seeing the threat of more thunderstorms moving twoo our area. 6:00 p.m. also seeing more rain and threat of thunderstorms. so coming up in just a bit we'll talk more about this, time t

as we heard meteorologist erika martin say strengthening. evacuations are in place. you can see with this picture, the waves just crashing over what appears to be a barrier right there. elevation in that part of texas and gulf of mexico only ten feet. so this could cause major damage as this storm gets closer and closer to the coast. >> mike seidel from the weather channel filed this report. >> with each rain band coming, ahead of hurricane harvey, the wind increases and rain comes down. we're gusting at times 35 to 40 miles per hour. but we have a long way to go. hurricane harvey landfalling late tonight and early saturday morning just to our south. we're going to be on the north side. that's the worst side to be on. also the risk of tornadoes. we had a couple tornado warnings earlier. look at the bay. we're mile was from the open waters of the gulf. so we are inland, but look at these wave heights now getting very angry. we do have a sea wall protecting us. this is a safe location for coverage tonight. this is the hol inn. you can see they have built this for hurri

erika martin is tracking the forecast. chances are it's going to include some rain. >> i'm a beach goer, but right now, that's not where i want to be. all the rain is headed right across cape may. you're also getting pockets of downpours. bright spots of oranges and some red telling us that we do have some thunderstorms and heavier pockets of downpours moving through. we have a severe thunderstorm warning that has just been issued until 5:45 p.m. for bucks county, burlington, mercer and ocean county. so we are expecting some strong storms moving across our area from west to east. right now, i'm going to time a few out for you. these are slow movers, but they are packing quite a punch because they are slow movers and they are dump iing a lot of rai and moving through pretty strong because you're seeing a lot of lightning strikes through our area. atlantic city, you're also expecting more thunderstorms moving through your area soon enough. notice it's not very organized as we get this going and pause this at approximately 7:

first alert meteorologist erika martin is tracking storms as they move through neighborhoods from theigh valley to philadelphia. erika? >> that's right, denise. here's the good news. the storm warnings, severe thunderstorm warning for berks county has just been discontinued. we still have a severe thunderstorm watch for bucks county, delaware, montgomery and philadelphia counties. we also still have an area flood advisory that has been issued through 9:30 p.m. for berks c county. keep that in mind, if you see any flooded roads, turn around, don't drown. storm damage reports so far, we've seen a few flooded roads. also reports of some hail and some downed trees just to the west of berks county and lehigh valley. satellite and radar image right now, notice how we are seeing a line of storm moving in from west to east. lots of lightning as well. we have a cold front right behind that. everything's pushing in from west to east which is why we're seeing a lot of active weather. earlier today, we did see warm temperatures, in fact, a lot of breaks breaks in those clouds. that allowed the se
