erika. >> reporter: the tiny bundles preparing for the moment to be two, perhaps they were even born. the sandovals are 2 and shared much of their lower body. their mother says doctors gave her a diagnosis early on in her pregnancy that the twins might not make it. and then told she might not make it, either. but she says they all beat the odds and were ready to embark on separating eva and erika. the family started on their journey at lucille packard children's hospital at stanford. it took a team of 50 doctors, nurses and operating staff 18 hours to complete the separation and it was a success. now each girl has a portion of their vital organs an each still has one leg. while the girls are recovering, a world of support surrounding them is exploding with heartfelt messages from the family and even complete strangers. her aunt posting to facebook, they made it! hashtag, survivors. >> we have seen one gall bladder, we haven't seen the other. >> reporter: they still have a journey ahead. at least for the next two weeks they will be monitored in intensive care. the doctor says the twins did very well
