i'm erin burnett. isis charges that an american hostage, a 26-year-old woman has been killed by a jordanian air strike. the terrorists offered no proof of death, no photo of a body. they claim she was killed in the bidding you see here. the american hostage's family identified the woman as kayla mueller captured in august of 2013. they insisted they have not seen anything that corroborates isis' claim. we're also learning that isis in syria has developed plans to kidnap more westerners in neighboring countries including lebanon and jordan and bring them into syria. we'll have much more on that development in just a moment. i want to begin with barbara starr at the pentagon. the building isis says was hit killing just one person 26-year-old kayla mueller. what do you know? >> tonight u.s. officials are scouring everything they have for any intelligence about what really happened here. if you look at the isis claim, they claim this young woman was the only person killed in this jordanian bombing run. wha

i'm erin burnett. the breaking news. an iraqi official telling cnn that isis has burned up to 40 people alive. the iraqi official says the victims include police officers and tribal fighters all near the town of al-baghdadi. that town is nine miles away from an air base where 400 american military personnel are stationed. the united states is analyzing images of this slaughter. jim sciutto is outfront. when i first saw the reports were we all hoping this was an exaggeration and this could not be true. it seems that this horrific thing has happened. what more can you tell us. >> reporter: this one would stand out. the iraqi officials saying some 40, more iraqi security forces but local tribes men who stood up to fight isis advances on this town close to a u.s. iraqi base that they were burned to death. most of them possibly burned to death. i've read situational reports from iraqi forces on the ground who raise the possibilities they were burned after they were killed in the fighting. this is something this isis has done

i'm erin burnett. record snowfall is hitting the northeast. minutes ago, massachusetts governor issuing a state of emergency for the state. boston shutting down their subway system for the next 24 hours at least. boston has now had 60 inches over 60 inches of snow in the past couple of weeks. that's just since mid-january. that's the most snow ever in one month. it's set a record for the most snow in over a week. over 40 inches. this is the third monday in a row that the region has been ground to a halt by snow. the biggest problem is what to do with all of it. and to give you an idea of how much snow they've had to remove in the northeast of the united states massachusetts governor says in the past month, crews have removed enough snow to fill the 70,000 new england patriots stadium. that's filling it not one, not twice, but 90 times over. across the region, the weight of all of that snow is causing roofs and buildings to collapse. it's not just boston. new york state is looking up to 14 much ins of snow. much of connecticut, new hampshire, o
