erin burnett speaking to the ex-wife of the killer here. let's talk about the investigation. i'm joined by cedric lleyton. cedric, thank you for being with us. your area of expertise is military. you have been involved in operations before. we learned this killer had been coming to the nightclub behind me for three years. three years. as often as a couple times a month. that seems like a long time to be casing a building if that's what he was doing. you know, just on the face of it, it seems like he was there for other reasons. personal reasons. perhaps as a patron. >> that could very well be, john. one of the things we look at when we investigate cases like this is is there something that happened? is it possible he was rejected by somebody? maybe he made an advance and things went bad. one of the other things to look at is was he casing other areas as well. was he looking at the disney shopping center that you and boris were talking about earlier? these are things that have to come together. the one thing that is disconcerting here. he was a consumer of all of the different

i'm erin burnette. carol costello also here with me in florida. i'm outside the medical center where many victims are fighting for their lives. the latest this morning, 49 people killed. the 50g9 as we have been reporting. the shooter, who also killed himself. and i believe we want to get straight here as our coverage continues, to boris right now, who is with us with the very latest that we understand. boris? >> reporter: hey, good morning, erin. we just got details from officials about an hour and a half ago that we didn't have before. first off, the primary focus is to notify the next of kin of the 49 people killed as a result of this shooter. it's within a long, arduous process of not only processing but then identifying the remains of those inside the can club. right now fewer than half of the names that have been killed have been released by authorities. still a lot of families desperate for information. we got clarity from officials about those three hours between 2:00 am when the shots first start ringing out to 5:00 am when officials went

erin burnett has more on that. hi, erin. >> yeah, carol.lly getting a look inside the shooter's home. you know, as we've reported, the fbi had opened a case into him, and part of the reason that they let it close was they found out he had a wife and a young child and a job. they thought that meant he was stable. police have been searching his apartment looking desperately for clues in that seemingly normal family life. according to authorities, the shooter's wife helped them put together a time line of the shooter's movements before the attack. last night she actually was seen leaving the apartment. she shared with their son 3 1/2 years old, the age of that little boy. she was carrying a duffel bag, hiding her face to try to avoid thecameras. this is his second wife. he had been married before. let's bring in polo sandoval. what have you been able to learn now that we're finally seeing what was inside the shooter's apartment? >> well, erin, you heard those crucial questions yet to be answered, several questions just mentioned by my colleagu
