>> let's go to erin mclaughlin who is in portland. what's the latest on the deadly shooting that took place there? >> hey, geoff. last night was yet another violent night for portland. protesters once again confronting police, throwing projectiles, including eggs and rocks. 29 arrests were made. within those arrests, at least two handguns and a knife were seized from the protesters who were arrested in last night's violence. it was a tumultuous end to a chaotic weekend. on saturday, a man was shot and killed right on this street here in downtown portland. he was wearing a patriot prayer hat. patriot prayers is a far right group in the area. now it's unclear if that homicide is in any way connected to a convoy of pro-trump protesters who drove through the streets of downtown. they were seen firing paintballs and mace at people, clashing with counterdemonstrators. all of that part of an ongoing investigation. no arrests made. at this point they have yet to name the victim, although the president has been tweeting about it. also railing

monica albin, erin mclaughlin is in oregon.in, in the next half an hour or so we expect to hear from the former vice president. what is the message he's trying to convey here? >> steve, joe biden just touched down at the airport nearby here in pittsburgh, a place of great political significance to him. it was the place where he held his first rally of this 2020 campaign and where he has always kicked off the general election of past campaigns since 2008, usually at the labor day parade, but obviously something different here at the time of the coronavirus. what the biden campaign wants to do and hoping to accomplish is looking over the last few weeks, especially in the wake of the republican convention, not abiding by what they have seen from the trump campaign, which is trying to take the pictures of public demonstrations, violence in american cities, and using that as a warning sign of what they say would be in biden's america. as the biden campaign points out, this is all happening on donald trump's watch. so we'll hear the

erin mclaughlin joins us with the latest. >> reporter: ali, a homicide investigation is under way in the city of portland, oregon. authorities are still trying to piece together exactly what happened. they're urging people not to draw any conclusions at this point. they say that at 8:46 p.m., gunfire could be heard captured on social media there on the streets of portland. social media video also showing a man with a gunshot wound to his wechest, lying on the groun surrounded by police and other authorities, trying to help him. police releasing a statement saying they located and responded to a man with a gunshot wound in the chest and determined the man was deceased. police are also aware of other videos that purport to show the shooting itself, also part of this ongoing investigation. earlier that day there was a pro-trump vehicle rally that began outside of the city, eventually making its way into the city itself. according to police, pro trump protesters clashed with demonstrators. multiple individuals were arrested. but the caravan had left the city by the time of the shooting.

let's go to my colleague erin mclaughlin joining me now. what more do we know about this today? >> reporter: hey, alex, well authorities are calling it a homicide investigation. the shooting happened at 8:46 p.m. saturday evening. we were speaking to a citizen journalist by the name of justin dunlap who was there at the time of the shooting. he said he was arriving at the scene because he heard there war some pro-trump protesters in the area. when he arrived, the situation was calm. he was actually planning to go in another direction whether all of a sudden he said he heard yelling, gunfire and saw mace go off and then he saw the victim turn in the other direction, take a few steps and then drop to the ground. he said he saw two individuals running in the other direction away from the scene. he said he then was overcome by mace. i couldn't see any any more. but shortly thereafter authorities did arrive. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, yet to be identified. this followed with a tumultuous day with a pro-trump vehicle rally that drove through the city. you could see t
