for more, i sat down with porter erisman, the director of "crocodile in the yangtze, the alibaba storyined alibaba in 2000 as the company was moving out of jack ma's small apartment. he worked with him as head of communications for almost eight years. i started by asking what the founders were really like in those early days. >> they were just as ambitious and as big a dreamer as any silicon valley startup. and i think at the time, i think people thought this was an english teacher who was making bold claims about where the internet would go, where alibaba would go. there were a lot of skeptics, obviously. but the team stuck with the early apartment ideals back when they were founded. and now, it doesn't seem so crazy. >> did you have his blessing for this? you worked very closely -- i wonder what he thinks of the film. >> my last day at the company, i sat down with him and i told him i wanted to make a documentary of my experience, told completely from my perspective. he gave me his blessing for that. but after that, i disappeared for three years. i wanted to keep it very independent
