ernestine weiss. >> good afternoon, everyone. i just want to compliment the bicycle coalition on all the good work they do. however, i have to mention that we have the great problem about bicycles whizzing by on the sidewalks without any regard to pedestrians. it is so dangers. one of my dear friends was struck and injured very seriously by a biker was disobeying the rules. however, i also live at the golden gateway, and we have a courtyard where cars come out of the garage and the ball traverse the area, tenants and visitors, and there are signs posted this in no bicycling, no state -- skateboarding, and they just whiz right through there. we do not have eyes in back of us. we cannot see what is coming at us. i would recommend that more be done about these people who do not obey the laws, and they're too many of them. thank you. >> thank you. any other public comment on seven? >> items on the consent calendar. >> i have one request for staff. in light of the comments about the traffic congestion, if perhaps we can have some staf

. >> ernestine weiss. >> i would just like to bring to your attention -- excuse me -- the fact that cars are the problem in this city. there is an article that was written in the "new york times" on december 15 that you can the google and see how europe and portland oregon discourages cars in all major cities. that is what is missing here. if we did that, we would not need a central subway for billions of dollars going no where. we would get muni on board to have their vehicles on time. i told that to the head of the muni, and he said he read that article. i said, "well, just do it." we are behind the times with all our managing here. i would ask you to engage in action to promote it because we cannot have any more congested -- congest gen. there are thousands of condos in the immediate area. and it is getting worse. where are we going to put all those cars? on mars? please engage yourself in that along with the other parts of the city government so we can get it going. thank you. >> any other public comment? >> before i did that, i want to thank the staff and say i know these presentati

-- ernestine weiss, and i was a creator of barry parker originally, and i know every inch of that ground. after fighting all the museums, they wanted it. everybody wanted to come and grab the land. it is for the people, for picnics, exercise, tai chi, etc. i put that in specifically for that reason, to preserve that as open space. we do not have enough open space in the city, especially in district 3. as you know, david chiu, we are land corps -- poor. we cannot make exceptions. i used to chase the volleyball people out of there, the soccer people who lived in golden gate way, and i said they could not put stuff into the ground and ruin it with the park and stuff. they agreed and went over to plaza south. this is the reason why we cannot disturb that plot. it we do that, the soccer kids and volleyball teams will say, "what about us? you are playing to a specific group. that is not fair." we have 1000 families, i understand. where are you going to accommodate them on this little lot? especially on washington street. that is the biggest jump to traffic ligh
