errin? errin: well, you know, with president trump out of the office the future of the republican party and the direction they are going to go in is very much in question. i mean, you had marjorie taylor green, you know, in the wake of joe biden being inaugurated, calling for his impeachment. and you have -- you know, folks like -- another freshman laurie bobby:ert who is -- boebert who is wanting to carry a gun on the house floor. so that really seems at odds with some other republicans who try to strike maybe a more -- a more conciliatory tone if not a tone that felt disingenuous to some democrats that i spoke to given, you know, their role in kind of stoking the claims of a rigged election that, you know, a lot of folks -- say did fuel the events of january 6. and so again, these are lawmaker that are coming to work with colleagues that they do not trust right now given the events of january 6, the fact that there was an insurrection and questions of whether some of their co-workers were

. >> errin haines? >> yeah, rev.nk it's just to your point, you know, as he's writing the final chapter of his legacy, president trump is sticking with what he's done for the pandemic pretty much for the entire time. in terms of his presidency, this has really been an À la carte president. president trump being presidential means doing the things that interest him and not really focusing on the things that do not interest him. what we've seen this year is that this pandemic from both a public health perspective has not really interested this president in the waning days of his presidency he has chosen to focus instead on false claims of voter fraud, claiming to win an election that he actually lost and that we know that he lost as a matter of fact and not a matter of opinion. and, you know, focusing on things like pardons and executions in the final days of his presidency. and so with that being the case, what you have is americans looking ahead to the incoming president. if president trump is not going to be respons

i wonder if you think that, i think what errin is saying is right. could pull but what he's making clear, every lever he can pull, he's going to pull in his direction. i wonder if you think, that would always be historic in a massive undertaking but coming up for donald trump, it feels like you have to go underground and sort of pull up the damage and then get to the baseline and then reach higher. what do you think that task is like coming after donald trump? >> you can't put too fine a point on the significance of joe biden leaning in on racial equity this week. the nation in many ways is not just burdened by racial inequity but too often our inability to recognize it. and certainly, under the years of donald trump, not only was there an inability to recognize it but often, it seemed there was a deliberate move to ignore it. and so you can never get to the policy fixes that are necessary to achieve equity if you don't acknowledge the equity in the first instance. and so what joe biden has done is completely radically shifted the conversation back t
