errin haines is back.fbi assistant director for counterintelligence. and the aforementioned michigan attorney general, dana nessel, is here. madam attorney general, first, tell me, we'll get into whether or not there are questions of criminality, but is this standard rhetoric on the election denial gop running for office in michigan side? >> it is now. and in fact, i specifically asked that the michigan republican party denounce and condemn the language of this candidate for governor and candidate for state senate and they specifically refused to, and in fact, i have three opponents running against me for michigan attorney general who would be charged with enforcing election laws. they have remained completely silent on this. and that is terrifying. >> and just on the acts themselves, so, these are aspiring politicians telling people to pull out the plugs on voting machines. the crime seems pretty obvious, right, tampering with election equipment. there's some audacity, though, right, to the people who are

he wrote an extraordinary piece on january 6th out this morning, there is with us errin haines, one ofork. let's talk about what democrats are doing right now. chuck schumer is saying he wants to change the senate filibuster rules to pass voting rights, but we've gone over this. manchin and sinema do not want to end the filibuster and under the current rules democrats cannot pass voting reform on their own. so what's chuck schumer trying to do here? what am i missing? >> i mean, you've got it, steph, under the current rules they need 60 votes under the rules that they want to change them to, they need 50, they don't have 50, they don't have manchin and sinema, may not have others to change the rules. i think chuck schumer is trying to put measure on these two senators but really to signal to voting rights advocates that he's working for them. he's been thinking about fundraising, the midterm elections, thinking about his own security as majority leader and as the senator from new york and avoiding primary challenges. none of this is likely to result in a filibuster change. >> erin, set

joining me now is errin haines, editor at large for the 19th. leader and victor xi, a fire panel, so excited to have you all here. you're a reporter, long-time journalist, you've certainly put in time at various newsrooms now at the 19th. i do feel like it's incumbent upon journalists to stop referring to these folks as the republican party. it seems like they're just right wing extremists. the fact that they're saying do not participate in presidential debates is further proof that they're not interested in upholding the democracy in any way. but as a journalist, as someone who covers this, i'm curious your take? >> yeah, i mean, tiffany, i will tell you when i saw "the new york times" headline from maggie haberman saying this was a real consideration, certainly the rnc had been discussing and had made their kind of displeasure with the debate process heard, especially in the last election cycle, i was alarmed because, yeah, you don't get to check out of democracy, particularly if you are one of the major parties in this country. look, i mean,
