joining me now cnn political commentator errol louis. , errol, the impeachment investigation is speeding along. the assembly is asking governor cuomo to submit additional evidence by next friday. and cuomo says that he'll cooperate. that's not a lot of time for the governor's side to respond. is the assembly aware of the optics if this drags on and looks like it is helping the governor? is that what they're trying to avoid? >> i think dragging things out is exactly what the governor has done and would probably like to continue doing. you know, he's had a lot of time to organize a response. in fact, shortly after the report came out this week, let's keep in mind, a 14-minute prepared video was rolled out. a more than 100-page document prepared by his lawyer was issued. so you can't do that level of response and then say, oh, i need a little extra time. so i think the assembly deadline will probably be met, and the process will go forward. however, make no mistake about it. time is what the governor is most in need of, and it's what he is s

joining me now to discuss is cnn political commentator errol louis. of spectrum news and post of you decide podcast, errol, thanks for joining me. look, nobody wants to tuck about these situations but they play a huge role in politics, how it's positioning itself. it's just a reality. when you see the president taking action, delivering on that promise he made to hunt count and make the perpetrators of the attack pay. does that do anything to tamp down the criticisms from both parties the president has been facing over the course of the last 10 or 11 days? >> good morning, phil. i think the criticism to point would come anyway, for exactly the reason you hinted at which is for some people this was never about politics and patriotism, this was always about politics. specials there are those trying to decide next election are dusting off the talking points for the president to resign and secretary to resign and joint chiefs to resign on and on. i think for the administration, they do bear accountability, and the president has said as much. he's going to

joining me now, cnn political commentator errol louis. thank you. here we go. we've been having these conversations since i said anything is possible in new york politics. have i not said that? >> you have said that. >> i have said that. what was your reaction to the approach of his attorneys that they took today, attacking the accusers and the investigation? what did you think? >> it was a little bit surreal. it was very tone deaf. it involved victim blaming and some really strange departures into trivia frankly, minutia. they're trying to impeach the credibility of one of the accusers by showing some strange timeline, proving that she was, in fact, in the executive mansion where the governor was on a day when he was there. i'm not sure what they were trying to do, but it seemed to backfire. really what they were doing, don, is acting as if they were in a court of law, complaining about some pretty abstract procedural complaints that they had. but there's nobody to complain to. this is not a court of law. there is no judge to appeal to. this is a report that t

so joining me now, someone who knows all about new york politics, cnn political commentator, errol louisor joining. you have been doing this for a while. you know what the heck you are talking about. so the governor is hemorrhaging support. even president biden, his closest allies, say that he must go. you have covered new york politics for a while. how long can he hang on? >> i would say, longer than you might imagine. you know, if -- if he wants to run with the support and cooperation of his partners in government, then sure, he'd have to leave, probably, before the weekend is over. but if he wants to just tough it out, this turns into something of a political-science experiment. how long can he hold on? you could ask donald trump about that. who was impeached twice, who had all kinds of accusations against him. and he said, i'm going -- all -- all of these women are lying, said donald trump, and i'm going to sue all of them. and it turned out that they weren't lying, and he didn't sue any of them. and, you know, he had a lot of problems in his presidency. but he kind of made that prob

. >> you're saying the same thing errol louis said earlier.ng when it's right there in your face, essentially. >> yes. >> so, you when you mentioned his attorneys thing that stuck to a lot of people who saw in the piece before this was attorney glavine talking about the demeanor of executive assistant number 1 at the mansion that day. clearly, she was trying to portray an employee who seemed happy, was eating, joking. trying to show that, you know, there wasn't any optics in terms of her behavior that something had gone wrong. but clearly, this is a dicey argument because there's a serious nature, obviously, to this. the involve of alleged accusers that are coming out are problematic, and we're in the me too era. so things could be handled differently now. what is your interpretation of the governor's attorney item itemization and recall of this? >> university, rita glavin, yeah, she's kind of forgetting the me too movement, and the times have changed. it's not like new york in 1955, when women could be treated with complete disrespect and sex

joining me now are cnn political commentator errol louis, and civil rights attorney and advocate nancyrol, can you speak to the significance of cuomo's disgraceful end? after decades of dominating here and nationally, now he's out. the state's first female governor, kathy hochul, is about to step in. >> this is a political dynasty. if you include mario cuomo and andrew cuomo taken together, one of them has been on statewide ballots since the mid 1970s. so this is very, very significant. andrew cuomo is the dean of governors. there's no governor serving anywhere in the country that's been there longer than he has, which is over a decade. for it to end so quickly when just last year he was riding high, regularly on national television, talked about a presidential candidate, much like his father was. for it all to end so quickly is really quite extraordinary. >>> nancy, i want to play one of the moments from cuomo's announcement, really just about 24 hours ago, where he's explaining himself and he talks to a generational shift, as he calls it. >> in my mind, i've never crossed the mind wi

joining us now cnn political commentator errol louis, and carolyn.at the governor left the way he did and what happens now? >> i was a little surprised. it only became clear about halfway through his 20-minute speech, oh, he's leaving. we knew he was going to put up a fight. we knew he wanted to put up a fight. he had a lot of time, frankly. the assembly is moving towards impeachment a pace a month from now they would have to make a hard choice and hard votes and he was going to use every bit of that time because time seemed to be strategy the he was using to try to delay things, hope for a reversal, rally the public to his side or otherwise get out of all of this. he ran out of options and it became clear that he at least now accepted that he was out of options. his advisers had been walking away from him, many had told him that this was -- it was over and it was time to call it quits. he finally acknowledged that. he's going to, i think, sort of play out over the next 14 days for every last advantage he can get. i don't know how much good it's goin
