joining me now cnn political commentator errol louis.o, errol, the impeachment investigation is speeding along. the assembly is asking governor cuomo to submit additional evidence by next friday. and cuomo says that he'll cooperate. that's not a lot of time for the governor's side to respond. is the assembly aware of the optics if this drags on and looks like it is helping the governor? is that what they're trying to avoid? >> i think dragging things out is exactly what the governor has done and would probably like to continue doing. you know, he's had a lot of time to organize a response. in fact, shortly after the report came out this week, let's keep in mind, a 14-minute prepared video was rolled out. a more than 100-page document prepared by his lawyer was issued. so you can't do that level of response and then say, oh, i need a little extra time. so i think the assembly deadline will probably be met, and the process will go forward. however, make no mistake about it. time is what the governor is most in need of, and it's what he is

erroll lewis is with us this morning.or and the host of the you decide podcast. good morning, erroll. great to see you as always. his legal team held that press conference yesterday. they doubled down on his rebuttal. they attacked the credibility of both investigators and the evidence including the testimony of one witness. what was your biggest take away from that press briefing yesterday? >> reporter: good morning, boris. one big take away that i had from that disastrous press conference was that in some ways they kind of supported the claims of the accusers. it was hard to imagine that this was anything but a desperate short-term lashing out at the direction of their client, the governor, to try and say something, but the reality is it's not at all -- nothing they said was inconsistent with what the accusers told the attorney general's office. the executive assistant, for example, said that she wasn't clear exactly on which date it was. for the governor's lawyers to go through this absurd tiktok about what happened on

errol, the governor called for an independent investigation into these allegations. he got one. now it sounds like he's using donald trump's witch hunt playbook. you know, accusing it of being biased and trying to discredit the accusers and so on. how does this hold up? >> yeah, after a few months into the investigation, i guess the governor got wind of the skind of questions being asked. didn't like what he was hearing and began to adopt a more defiant tone. began to question the motives of the people who are investigating him. they have unimpeachable legal credentials. it hasn't gone very far. he's brought out his own lawyers and tried to nitpick particular accounts and continue to throw out this idea that there's somehow a political conspiracy against him. it doesn't really survive much scrutiny, jim, because, you know, we've got every democrat at every level of government who knows anything about this, up to and including president biden, all saying, it is time for you to go. this is over. but the governor has a legal right to continue to fight the battle. but the outcome of

and, number two, as you'd said, or as errol had said, it's 11 accusations and 179 different pieces ofit's just a strong case against the governor. he can attack all he wants. but it's still a strong case, it doesn't change it. >> you know, paula, cuomo clearly now faces already one criminal complaint. but this could be just the start of the legal consequences for the governor's actions, right? >> well, a criminal complaint in many way what's just a formality. district attorneys were already criminally investigating some of the allegations in the attorney general's report. and really it's not clear that there will actually be any criminal charges brought. it's hard to prove sexual harassment allegations beyond a reasonable doubt, which is what you need to do in a criminal case, which is why a lot of times these allegations are more likely to be handled in a civil court, in a civil context. but what was just so stunning to me today at this press conference was the fact that this lawyers could not address the allegations from the female state trooper, knowing that at least three district

joining us now cnn political commentator errol lewis. he's the host of the you decide podcast.you. she resigned overnight, not saying it has been a pleasure to serve with the governor. not mentioning him by name. what is the big take away? >> the main take away is that this is an administration in freefall. the top aide, as you describe her, really all the departments report up to her. this is an administration that has basically been decapitated. that has over $2 billion worth of housing assistance, much- needed assistance to people who have not been able to pay their rent over the last year. that money has not been spent. new york is behind all of the states and getting it done. the administration is grinding to a halt and the governor has not been heard from. has been holed up. has not resigned. has not made any clear statements about what is supposed to happen to the state of 20 million people. and this sort of makes clear that his closest advisors, his top aides are just walking away from him. he apparently is not listening to them. >> important business as you mentioned i

errol lewis. you only have to read the first page of the a.g. towards the reactions of all these women who clearly felt that he was wielding his position of power to make their lives worse. now, so far cuomo has shown no signs of stepping down. you covered new york politics for a long time. what is his next move? >> well, his next move is very possibly to resign. but it is also possible that we'll see a repeat of what we've seen the last five months which is the governor going about his business holding press conferences, talking about covid and otherwise acting as if this is not hanging over his head. what he's said repeatedly is wait for the report, wait for the report, keep an open mind. the report is out and the report is damning. the report talks about 11 different women making complaints independently. in many cases they didn't even know each other. and so the governor now has to make a really tough choice about whether he wants to try and continue with this sort of pantomime of governing when everybody from the freshmen members of the ass
