one vote separates two candidates in the race to replace anna eshoo-in congress.ction officials are still counting the ballots, but here are the latest results from just a couple of hours ago. sam liccardo led all candidates and will advance to the november general election. but all eyes are on who is going to finish in second place and therefore face liccardo. remember, the top two of these three advance. liccardo is already advancing. so is it going to be evan low or joe simitian? at last count, evan low has a one-vote lead over simitian. there are fewer than 2,000 ballots left to be counted. now those remaining ballots are called contested ballots. that means when a voter turned it in, they either didn't sign it, or the signature did not match the one on record. elections officers are waiting for those voters to respond. >> so what we are doing is reaching out to those voters by mail to insure that they can reach out and to verify their signatures with us so their votes can be counted. they can come in to the office or also mail or fax the verification forms. >

anne makovec here on district 16 race to fill anna eshoo's seat. we're still looking at the numbers coming in? >> yes, we are and hot off the prez as we just got new minutes in the next past few minutes or so. it changes some of the percentages. so for these candidates, it is all still up in the air with a lot of people waiting for all these votes to be counted because it's razor thin. and so here are the latest numbers right now. this is sam liccardo leading, which we knew that already. joe simitian, 17.7%. and evan low has 15.6%. so just some very minor changes in the percentages there. the top two candidates, of course, are going to head to the november runoff. liccardo's spot in the race is all, but confirmed. he was already celebrating last night. it was an early front runner, raking in nearly double the cash as his competitors in the first month and a half of that campaign. >> i'm pretty familiar with the turf if washington, d.c. and what i know is we've got to get congress focused on the problems that our residents are most concerned about l

this year, one of the hottest races is for anna eshoo seat. she is retired after 31 years in congress. abc7 news south bay reporter zach fuentes has more from four of the candidates who raised the most funds and what experts say we can expect tomorrow. >> for the first time in 32 years, a long held congressional seat is opening up. it comes after longtime south bay congresswoman anna eshoo announced her retirement. a long list of candidates are vying for the seat. four have raised the most funds, according to opensecrets.org. as of the last report on february 14th, newcomer peter dixon raised more than $2.7 million, followed by former san jose mayor sam liccardo. state assemblyman evan low and santa clara county supervisor joe simitian. dixon is a tech entrepreneur and marine corps veteran. though he's raised the most money, he's never held office before, something he says gives him an edge. i'm an outsider who has a track record of getting things done, not just in business, not just in the federal government, but also on capitol hill. >> and
