president yee has called for an audience of the ethics commission which we authorized today.this is the entity that the city relies on for the impartial and effective administration and enforcement of laws related to campaign finance, governmental ethics, conflict of interest, and registration and reporting by lobbyist, campaign consultants, permit complants and major developers. these are critically important functions because without an ethics commission that is able to do its work effectively and efficiently, all of our good government, legislation and policy are just words on paper. the last audit was 2012 by the board's budget analyst. since this time, we've had new laws approved, including legislation i championed regarding shining a light on campaign financing. in light of today's criminal complaint filed against the director, i am fast-tracking the ethics commission audit to begin. it should not take an f.b.i. investigation to root out corruption in san francisco. we need to do a for better job enforcing our own ethics laws and this audit is an important step. preside
