winter storm euclid -- what, are we naming snowstorms now? euclid. you can lid? well, euclid blanketed much of the eastern half of the country yesterday, dropping blizzard-like conditions and record snowfall in the midwest, and by late afternoon, euclid moved northeast, bringing traffic to a standstill, forcing the cancellation of more than 1,500 flights on one of the busiest travel days of the year. the weather channel's mike seidel has more on the massive christmas storm. >> reporter: a major snowstorm has dumped over a foot of snow across parts of the midwest. indiana got hit hard. high winds adding to the misery there. >> it's a lot better with the four-wheel-drive, but it, yeah, it's definitely a doozy out there. >> reporter: and there's lots of snow in little rock, too. folks there had the snowiest christmas ever with nine inches. and it's making getting anywhere almost impossible. ice is coating windshields, branches and power lines. >> we're going to make the best of it. we're trying to find some place with power where we can get a cup of coffee and hot c

this is a storm that has been given a name called winter storm euclid.t has dropped a foot of snow in some areas. it is causing a lot of travel problems including delays at laguardia. it is a video out of columbus ohio this morning we can see a difficult place for drivers to get to work this morning. many roads are slick covered with snow and ice. all hail could pick up another injured to from the storm. as the storm makes its way up the east coast the national weather service says the north east heaviest snowfall maybe and northern pennsylvania, upstate new york and inland sections of new england states. the storm is set to end tomorrow morning before it heads to canada. >> if you're planning to had to the sierra so get back cool snow the powder is great but the roads are not. authorities want to remind drivers to make sure to have changed handy. this affects drivers driving up on the on interstate 80 and highway 50. caltrans advisory's are still in effect. for good reason, the snow has been coming down all along those highways leaving behind slick and

what we're seeing is that last storm that we call euclid now leaving the u.s.nd bringing residual snow showers behind the east. right behind it now, we have at another system making its way towards the coast this weekend. for much of the eastern seaboard, we expect fairly tranquil positions. much of south texas could see rainfall. dallas, texas, rain early. and improving through the rest of the day. and then the west coast is getting a little bit of a respite this weekend. but still from half moon bay northward to portland, expect showers out there and possibility snow in the mountains of the pacific northwest. let's talk about the flight delays chances for today and through the weekend. a lot of people will be traveling today. you can expect some delays in places like syracuse. tomorrow, the travel situation actually gets worse. back ups are possibly in region regional airports, washington, d.c., philly and into pittsburgh. things will improve sunday. snow showers are a possibility, but all things considered should not hamper travel too badly. >> what is this

this one is given the name euclid. go figure. i say that spells trouble.o spell trouble for people trying to travel out of new york. you look at this color code behind us, where you happen to see the orange and the yellow. just like on a traffic light you're going to have a little bit of caution there. but ground travel at least air travel may come to a screeching halt in places like boston, portland, maine, mind you and even in buffalo, all due to this immense storm. take a look at it. for some people it means just rain like in new york and back over towards long island. but also means a lot of wind with some gusts approaching 50, 60, even 70 miles per hour. in upstate new york, back into maine, and new hampshire and vermont, the story is not rain, it's not even really that much in terms of wind, it's going to be snow. some spots up to a foot. so let's zoom in again on parts of the northeast. new york, you expect the temperatures to be about 38 degrees for a high. 32 in cleveland. very nice in the mid-atlantic and into the southeast. but in the nation's m
