i'm joined now live by the reverend eugene rivers, pastor of the izuzu christian community and a msnbc political analyst. how are you doing? >> i'm well, alex thank you. and you? >> i'm well, thank you. first of all, your reaction to what's happening there in georgia? >> first, prayers to the family, the wife and the kids and secondly, regardless of how this turns out, it's a tragedy. if it turns out that the allegations are false, he -- i don't know how he recovers. if it turns out that the allegations are true or some portion of them are true, he is effectively destroyed this multi million dollar ministry that he spent the last 20 years building. >> and it's a ministry that he went from 300 condegree gants to 25,000 people. >> that's right. >> now, it is important, reverend, to emphasize that bishop long has denied all of these allegations against him. having said that, how does a congregation police a man of god? who is he responsible to if he were to face false allegations? >> listen, alex, you hit the nail on the head. the reality is that the celebrity ministry business that he ep

. >> i spoke with the reverend eugene rivers in our last hour who says that pastor long really epitomizesness. so when you have a past who are is this much of a celebrity, a powerful minister, how does a church, a group of people, keep tabs on someone like that? i mean, both for the sake of the congregation and the sake of protecting the pastor himself, to prevent false accusations? >> well, it's a prosperity ministry. in other words the more money you give when you -- when they pass around the plates or tithe a lot of their money, their income, the more money that god will rain down upon you. so we find that these sorts of pastors, this bishop in particular, has made about a million dollars a year from his own accounting. and did not want to when there were congressional hearings and so on, politicians coming out and saying that a lot of these pastors are making way too much money. he did not want his finances to be investigated. so bax leil what you have is someone who does not have any controls being put upon him. and, therefore, it's impossible to try to rein in not just the spend bug

eugene robinson is a pulitzer prize-winning columnist and msnbc analyst., the democrats had a good night last night night they now have candidate that will be easier to beat, that was their view coming out of nevada, got to face sharron angle instead of sue loudon. these tactical victories do they cover a more frightening reality out there of the anger level that has driven people to vote for people they don't even think are qualified because they are so angry? >> right, exactly. >> your answer, my answer may be not be good as yours. go ahead, gene. >> absolutely. i think they do tend to look past the anger that is out there. the anger is not just at the democrats. it is not just directed at the establishment but the republican party as well, which is, i think, arguably in as much trouble as the democrats. what they must not look past is these unbeatable candidates are not all unbeatable. i am not sure that o'donnell is so unbeatable in delaware. i think she is less likely to take the seat than castle would have been. >> a guy i talked to about polls today

eugene collagen -- eugene collins from the post calls it is who we from the gop. hooey from the gop.eyit what do you think of this tactic? guest: it depends what is in it. this is a chance for the voters to balance the obama administration, basically, to put a check on obama rather then give him a check. for the last 60 years we have had divided government. the voters have had no good news given to them, really, over the last decade. when you look at 9/11, two wars, katrina, the wall street bailout, a 9.5% unemployment. this is an effort to try to read brand and i do not think you can to try to rebrand and i just think voters are not happy with anyone or an hour. host: i want to play a clip of john boehner. let's listen to our he talks about taxes. >> we believe that part of the uncertainty that is causing employers to refrain from reinvesting in their businesses is the fact that no one knows whether the tax rates are going to be tomorrow. -- what the tax rates are going to be tomorrow. i think if you have more certainty, you will see employers begin to reinvest.

to that extent, i agree with eugene robinson we have to create our own environment for opportunity and a party and moving forward. we can't rely on just what may or may not have been within the republican party. but we have a good story to tell in the american people and i think democrats -- i say and all the time, let us put our shoulders up and put our heads up for the good things we have done to move the economy forward and to tell that story throughout our congressional district. and for our base, what i would say to them, it is really about 2012. interested in making sure this president succeed. it requires having a democratic congress. democratic majority in the united states congress. and we have a good story to tell about what we have done to shore up the economy. we have a good story about the way we protect consumers from but kind of financial ruin that was taking place in the bush administration. a good story to tell about protecting social security from privatization. we have a good story to tell about how we are making sure that young people have an opportunity to further
