. >>> for more on the story lines, i am joined by author and political contributor eugene daniels. it is good to see you, eugene. so, politico was one of the first, trump is reportedly preparing for the possibility he won't attend the republican t national convention in milwaukee next month. his campaign said, there are no plans other than trump attending in person. and yet, preparations are being made for trump to appear remotely. why make these preparations, and if he is not there, eugene, because he is under home confinement or worse, behind bars, how does that play out with voters? >> reporter: i think on the latter question there, for the q voters who really like donald trump, i don't think it would matter. i think they would take a video. they would take a podcast, they would take whatever they could get in hearing from him. t before those of the republicans , the nikki haley voters we can think of them as, you know, the suburban white voters, especially suburban white women who have been turning away from the republican party for years, they are uneasy with donald trump. they

. >>> let's get more about the political analysis on this verdict from eugene daniels, white house correspondenta siddiqui, reporter for "the wall street journal." eugene, what does this mean for the 2024 campaign? do you see this having an impact? >> one thing that's been kind of clear is a lot of this feels baked in for a long time. i think we don't know. what we have seen in polling is that voters have seen hunter's issues as hunter's issues. you have this attempt by republicans to tie what hunter biden -- his foreign business dealings, this case, to president biden. they have been unable to do that. they have admitted that. especially convincing voters of that. it's unlikely to blow back on president biden. that's exactly how folks in the white house feel, folks in the biden campaign and biden world feel at this moment. this is a volatile election. anything can change a couple of voters' minds. with that said, most voters' minds in this election, in this world we live in, are made up. it's hard to find voters who don't already have a feeling about joe biden, despite his son, and donald trump

we were talking with eugene daniels from "politico," who said it's on his wife and sister who he wouldld see in his life who would be saying to him right now, listen, there's a lot of people talking. we need to have a conversation about this or is that even a conversation that joe biden would have? >> well, he might, but let me just first of all say, look, it was a terrible night for joe biden, no question about it. perplexing because we just saw him on his game in north carolina. i mean, i think a lot of people, a lot of democrats were expecting the state of the union joe biden, the guy who owned the gop hecklers in realtime without a script during the state of the union, and somebody else showed up last night, and it's perplexing. but look, the notion, i think, that the cavalry is going to ride in and replace joe biden at the top of the ticket is fanciful. god love jon kasich and nick kristof. there are a couple of problems. you would need an intervention by family members and close friends. would probably have to be joe biden, valerie, hunter, plus a couple of good friends like ted
