joining me now is washington post columnist eugene robinson. ne, today is the fourth anniversary of george floyd's murder by a police officer. i did the eulogy at two of the funerals and late last week the family of u.s. senior airmen roger fortson laid him to rest in florida. i spoke at the funeral via a video and reverend jamaal ryan did the eulogy. the 20-year-old fortson was shot and killed earlier this month by a sheriff's deputy who mistakenly showed up at his apartment while responding to a disturbance. body camera footage shows the deputy announced himself twice. fortson, a licensed gun owner, according to his attorney ben crump, opened the door with his firearm pointed down. the deputy immediately shot fortson several times, then called for medical assistance. critics have pointed to other instances of black legal gun owners, amir locke, philando castile and now ehrman fortson, being reflectively shot by law enforcement despite being licensed to carry. you wrote an op-ed this week questioning if the second amendment is failing to protec

and eugene robinson, columnist at "the washington post" and msnbc political analyst.age, my friend, joyce. i'll go to you first. how can it be that aileen cannon as the person who is causing the delays by not ruling on things can say there are too many delays to do this trial? >> so this is one of the frustrations of being a federal prosecutor, even if being a lawyer, occasionally you have judges like this who whether they're hostile to a case or just have an overcrowded docket, they slow your case down to a point that seems unreasonable to you. the problem is that when that happens in an ordinary case, there's not the ticking deadline of an election. and a defendant like donald trump who might have the prok livety to suspend all prosecution and any prospect of accountability if he wins the election. so in this case, it makes it particularly difficult to watch this happen. >> if you're jack smith, do you try to somehow appeal it to the 11th circuit and get her booted? >> you know, the best hook that jack smith has for an appeal would be if judge cannon were to make ru
