white house correspondent kelly o'donnell, cal perry and gabe gutierrez in southern texas and eugene scott of "washington post" and petal levy from "mother jones" as well. kelly o'donnell what's the plan moving forward on the issue of immigration. we saw this report about the defense department renting space for 20,000 migrants. policiwise, kelly, what's the white house saying about what's next? >> one of the big issues is the fact that this crosses a number of different agencies and departments and there's a hurry-up bureaucracy that how has to confront this issue, try to assist with the reunification, provide shelter and care for those in the interim period. and that is a task that was not widely anticipated. so one of the things we are seeing is a sort of in real-time forming a policy and response. so the department of health and human services, which is largely responsible for the welfare of the families and children who are involved here, creating a task force to plan for what could take weeks of reunification for those children remaining. you've got the department of homeland securit

eugene scott with loughlin markey. eugene, start with you for a sense of what you are looking for in light of what i was just discussing with bill neely, that is you are looking at this through the prism of what happened in quebec over the last couple of days. how does that change what you are going to be looking for, eugene? >> i think what i'm looking for is looking specifically to see if president trump is going to prove that he actually has some type of nj and insight into what could make north korea move towards peace and denuclearization which is what he ultimately wants, in a way that he has not communicated before. we have some background reporting saying that one of the main motivations for donald trump with this whole summit with north korea is that when president obama and trump met shortly before the inauguration, obama made it very clear to president trump that north korea would be one of his biggest challenges. so trump is trying to communicate that he is solve a problem that obama was not able to. but he

joining us now to talk more about this reporter for the washington post, eugene scott once again. >> sure. >> we've got these nonstop stories that we've been reporting on for months surrounding spending and ethics scandals especially involving scott pruitt. do you think that pruitt can lead as sort of an effective administration here considering all the scandals surrounding him? also do you think at this point he's really around to take the heat off of president trump? >> well, he's certainly doing a good job according to president trump and i think that is the person who he has to worry about most. it's often been said that these top officials, they work for a party of one and so how other people in congress even within his party feel about him, it's not -- as much a priority as it is how trump feels. in terms of attention off of trump there's a lot of attention on the ethics concerns of both trump and pruitt and i think that actually shows that there are bigger problems in this administration. pruitt is not an isolated case and the question becomes how much will voters care about
