eun yang has more. >> reporter: the sheriff's office says the baby was left in the care of the teenage cousin. but the teen went out not realizing that the baby was sleeping in the house. it was a simple misunderstanding that had devastating consequences. a mother left her 19-month-old son sleeping at home in the care of his 15-year-old cousin. it was 8:30 p.m. and had to run errands. the problem was that the teenager didn't know he was supposed to be watching the toddler and he left, too. when she got home, they were both gone. >> when the mother found out that the child was not with the teenager, she panicked and started searching immediately for the child. >> reporter: at first she thought her son was missing and called police. but minutes later she found him. >> when she realized the baby gate was down she thought something was us is patient us and began searching for the child and when she went the in the backyard she found him in the pool. >> reporter: the baby was unconscious and was taken to a nearby hospital. he did not make i. 19-month-old jason burk jr. drowned in his family
