just north of us closer to areas like eureka stretching all the way up along the coastline closer tocent city but the exact same system will sweep down south through the next couple of hours, watch what happens as i advance the clock closer to lunchtime. around 12:00 this afternoon, we start to see showers form in the north bay and that's staying consistent while this continues to track to the south giving some of our friends along the peninsula and down into the santa clara valley just a quick splash of showers. not that impressive of numbers if anything we'll see about 0.01 of rain and i'll show you that in a second. but into the overnight hours tonight early morning hours tomorrow, i think it's worth noting that we'll still see some scattered showers in the forecast. so if you have to go out late tonight, early tomorrow morning, that umbrella is still definitely needed as we head into the afternoon hours. now like in -- i said in total we'll see close to around 0.01 of rain down into the santa clara valley. close to an inch in the north bay if we average out the numbers. pretty im

skies are clear, but you can see right up there north of eureka. that's where our rainfall is sitting in soon to be pushing in our direction for more and more of the bay area. now the north coast gonna see another heavy dose of this mount. shasta going to be seeing a solid dose of snow. but further south, this system really just fizzling out a little bit more. and you can see here in future cast by the time we reach the afternoon, we do see some light. misty drizzly spots, some light showers for most areas. most of our rainfall is going to be well to the north in sonoma and northern napa counties. so areas like santa rosa, you're going to see a decent, respectable rainfall here. a lot of the rest of us, just those light sprinkles enough to get the ground roadways. wet towards your evening commute tonight. will see spotty showers through the evening. again, the heaviest of it going to be santa rosa northward with the areas to the south, seeing those spotty showers as well. just not near as impressive. here's tomorrow morning at 07:30am, right here.

eyesight going through eureka and humble county. the potential is still there as the cold front moves across the bay, very isolated vocational lightning strikes could happen. when you see radar depictions that look like bull's-eyes like this, you will find the stronger rain and maybe the potential for lightning. this is not a forecast where we look at that and say -- at 11:00, that is you and you will get an isolated storm. instead it is verification. that could easily happen anywhere. most likely between 6:00 and midnight when it comes through. let's pick up the story again. if this is where we are at 11:00, let's take it from that point and get head to midnight. 1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m., it is in the south bay and will start to finally pull apart and exit from there. here is the nice thing about this, once we get to sunrise tomorrow it has cleared entirely and there is no rain in the forecast for saturday. we will be done in the system by then. even though the rain did look really good on the depiction, the totals do not really overpr

but as you can see, here's the bulk of the action up toward the north coast, right around eureka. also, right around redding's cold enough that we have some mountain snow, and there's that trailing band of rainfall moving into portions of the bay area already. so here is the coverage so far on the radar. i did see some light rain up in the santa rosa area so far this morning. not all that's reaching the ground just yet, but still some coverage to show you on our maps right now from sonoma to napa, approaching portions of san rafael and then as we move the maps closer to the south bay, we do have still partly cloudy skies across the south bay, but those clouds expected to thicken up over the next few hours. so here is that south bay view outside right now we do have mostly cloudy skies over san francisco, and there's still a bit of a breeze developing this afternoon. no wind advisories, but winds increasing out of the south around 20 to 25 miles an hour so that rainfall focused up in the north bay right now will continue to pick up in the short term. and those clouds and those show

weather prediction center's excessive rainfall outlook, and the purple area is from fort bragg to eureka, a significant flooding threat, but we've had flooding ongoing in parts of the north bay, flood warnings and advisories in effect there, fortunately, no flash flood warnings at this point. let's bring down the national map and talk about what things look like locally with the current radar perspective. the rain is largely concentrated over the north bay again. everything has been falling along and north of i-80 most of the day. this is gradually going to get nudged farther to the north as we head through tonight. it's still coming down from the coast to inland and that's falling on already saturated ground. santa rosa had its second wettest 48-hour stretch on record and it's still raining. you're only about a quarter inch from that record in downtown santa rosa. let's look how things will evolve through tonight and tomorrow and into the first half of the weekend as more of the bay area gets in on the action. futurecast through the rest of tonight shows shower activity getting nudged a

this yellow swath we have on the map here, mendocino, close to eureka, redding, mount shasta, chico andville, 6 to 15in of rain. so they're going to have some big time flooding issues here. also, off to the north, right in san francisco's forecast, we're tracking another atmospheric river sunday and monday, only a half to one inch. we're not overly concerned about that sunday and monday. then we'll see a quick moving system on tuesday. so that shouldn't cause us any big flooding problems. so we're really hoping tomorrow afternoon and evening we get in on a little bit of a break from this, because when it comes back friday, it's going to be more heavy rain. well, the breaks help certainly for flooding issues right. yeah, exactly. and for ground saturation which is really that will be everything. so hopefully that stays on track tomorrow afternoon and evening. and then we'll be able to get through friday a little better okay. yeah. thank you jeff a reminder you can track the series of storms right there on your phone with our nbc bay area app. it is a great resource to have. the weather t

you can get an idea of where we're seeing some of these stronger cells up through parts of chico, eureka point arena. but in the next couple of hours, if you want to follow along, here's what we can expect. so this is around 9:00 later into tonight. you'll notice we do start getting some of that rain moving in through parts of san francisco. so a bit more south of the golden gate bridge. some showers in through parts of fremont, palo alto, and san jose. as i push this timestamp forward to about 10:00 1130. notice we do have some heavier pockets into areas like concord and danville, also in through fairfield, but we're still going to keep some shower activity as well down through parts of the south bay. now we're not going to completely clear out overnight, even heading into early saturday morning. you're going to notice we've still got some shower activity as well popping out through tomorrow. so it is going to be a bit cloudier tonight. so even though it will be chilly, it won't be as cold. we're not expecting to dip down below freezing or anything like that. temperature wise heading in
