the port here was the first place to be fortified, then the eurotunnel approaches which were very attractive migrants but it has all been sealed to the point where it is pretty difficult and extremely dangerous for migrants to attempt that crossing. the french say that it has obviously done at a cost in terms of the additional policing required with hundreds of police officers on permanent duty in this area and the simple cost of all the infrastructure that has been required. the people here day that the town has paid an economic price and it was speculative that mr macron would try to solicit british money to try to revitalise the local economy but i think any suggestion that would have been rebuffed by the british. but calais will remain a problem for the foreseeable future and potentially will be one of mr macron's brexit card in the process of the negotiations. thank you very much, paul. we will return to vicki young a little later as well. we can speak our security correspondent, frank gardner. people may be surprised at how close the security ties are between britain and france. i thin
