we're joined now by evan dyers, senior reporter with a c. b. she in auto a well, well, evan, it's finally over. how damaging have these protests been? well, they've had a pretty severe effect on the economy. not so much. actually, the occupation of the nation's capital ottawa, the bill for that is not actually in yet. so there were certainly some major policing expenses. and businesses downtown were close for about $22.00 days. but the more expensive blockades were actually those at the border because they closed bridges where hundreds of millions of dollars of traffic goes over every day. so it's not an economic impact, but i'd say it's more destructive, social and political impact for one thing. we have the emergency exact so we have a form of emergency law currently in place in the country. it's exacerbated social divisions, parties and divisions within between parties between the governing party and the principal opposition, especially the conservative party has to some extent cited with the truckers evidence from the perspective of the prot

and more now i'm joined by evan dyer. he's a senior reporter with the c. b. c. he joins me from ottawa evidence, good to have you with the images that are coming out of nevada and canada. they are shocking the world. we know the prime minister trudeau has bound to bring it into this protest. i mean, how do you, how do you expect these truckers though to go home quietly? i don't think many of us do expect that to be perfectly honest. i think of what we've seen as a really high level of commitment from these truckers, they're absolutely determined to write this out. we've even seen people remove wheels from their trucks in an effort to make them more mobile than they already are. and of course, an 18 wheeler is already very hot or to move the drivers of all lock their air brakes. they are definitely here to stay and they have the financing to be here to stay. and so far we've seen no sign of weakening from the organizers or ordinary participants in this convoy and unpacked. i would say we'd see very little sign of flexibility from the government as well. although

they are demanding that the truckers be forced out of the way well, more now joined by evan dyer. he is a senior reporter with the cbc. he's in ottawa evidence. good to see you again. maybe you can update is what is the status of of traffic along this important ambassador bridge? i mean, are any trucks moving at all? well, it actually changes almost hour to hour, but it's changed. that's the latest development is that the police on the winter side of the bridge, this is basically a bridge that goes from the canadian side to the us side of the detroit windsor metropolitan area, which is really sort of one urban area and the police on the winter side have been able to open one lane, heading towards detroit, so traffic is moving slowly in that direction. whether that situation will last, we don't know because we've seen this happen before. the bridge is opened only to close down again. and there's no traffic coming in the other direction at the moment. so no traffic coming from michigan into ontario. and in the meantime, police diverted truckers and other traffic to another bridge ab
