we are trying to get all these details here and i want to bring in evan perez. u were just telling us moment ago you could confirm the shooter has been killed. what else can you tell us now? >> reporter: we're told some initials reports that reached law enforcement here in washington is this began it appears as some kind of soldier to soldier disagreement. these are the early indications which are often later proven to be inaccurate. one of the things we want to do is we want people to understand these are the early reports we got. authorities have not confirmed whether or not that was indeed the case. often this is the type of thing witnesses see and they report to authorities when they fled the building. so it is one of those things they are checking out. this doesn't mean that they ruled out all other possibilities including perhaps a terrorism nexus or just some other type of mass shooting incident if that indeed was the intent of the shooter. so that is the initial report that was at least sent to law enforcement officials was that it began as some kind of a

i'm going to bring in general marks and evan perez, bill gavin and also javier amador, who treated nidal hasan who killed people at ft. hood in 2009. the general said he wanted to give his condolences to the soldiers. this happened at 4:00 p.m., someone firing shots near the medical area and within 15 minutes the military responded and engaged the shooter. he doesn't believe at this point it's related to terrorism but not ruling it out. he's saying the atf, fbi and the texas rangers, texas state police and local law enforcement are involved. three victims were killed in the shooting, plus the shooter. 16 being treated at local hospitals and they are focusing now on the families of the killed and injured. the fbi and other law enforcement, they're being asked to be called if you have any other information. the people who live on this base and work on this base have been dealing with iraq and afghanistan for the last 13 years, general. and they need to feel safe at home as the president said. they're not feeling staff i would imagine now, and now all over the country, if not the world, the

evan perez is breaking the story for us. this is part of a two-year investigation.re these allegations against grimm? >> the fbi has been looking into grimm for a few years now. we're told by sources that as soon as next week they are expected to bring charges related to a business that he owned in manhattan, a restaurant called healthalicious. now, a lot of moving parts have been going on with this. two of his former fund-raisers have already faced charges in this case so we expect that this is a lot more is yet to come on this. jake? >> so focus on the 2010 campaign donors, tell me about that. >> well, the fbi was asking questions because at least one of his donors allegedly structured some of the donations to grimm's campaign. she was reimbursing some people who were providing donations to him and she's now facing charges. he's a former girlfriend of his. by the way, we have a statement from grimm's attorney and i can read that to you now. it says, "congressman grimm asserts his innocence of any wrongdoing. when the dust settles, he will be vindicated. until then

evan perez, general spider marks, and others will join us. ed, i vvan lopez. do we know an age? he has a family, and do we know any more about him? >> reporter: we were told he has a wife, but not the ages of his children. at the apartment complex, there's a great deal of work to be done. and we're also told by a neighbor that the wife did leave the apartment complex area with military officials this evening. and we're also told that officials are pouring over his medical records. he hadn't been diagnosed with ptsd, but there were other issues that he was being treated for. he hadn't been here for very long. neighbors said they moved in about a week ago. so, not really an opportunity for many of the people they lived next to to get to know them. and the wife, apparently, didn't speak english very well. so, we'll continue to follow up on that. we're also told by officials that, they wouldn't tell us what military installation he was transferred from. but one of the things they were doing, starting to analyze the treatment history that the suspect was going through. so, clearly, a

joining us now is aviation correspondent rene marsh and justice reporter evan perez and law enforcementfbi assistant director tom fuentes. rene, let's start with the new information that we're getting on the last person to speak the final words heard from the cockpit to ground control. tell us about that. >> well, wolf, we are now told by a source in malaysia that it was actually the captain who spoke those last words, "good night malaysia 370" as it was leaving malaysian air space and going into vietnamese air space. quite a difference from what we heard originally. before we were told by authorities that it was the co-pilot who spoke those last words. so now this changes things quite a bit as to who was on the radio and who was communicating in the air with air traffic control. we also know from this same source that it was five malaysian airlines pilots who were allowed to listen to the air traffic control radio transmissions to make the determination that it was the captain and not the co-pilot, as we had heard before, wolf. >> tom, what's the significance if it was either the pilot

i want to go to cnn's evan perez and bill gavin and spider marks. thank you for joining us. evan, what can you report about the shooter in this incident, do you know anything? >> well, yes, don. at this point the authorities are still trying to gather information. we know that they're doing some searches right now of the apartment that belonged to the person they believe is the shooter. this is also in killeen, texas, just on the outside of the base there. we know the shooting appears to have begun in the motor pool area, this is also on base according to authorities who have been to the scene there. again, as you said, the shooter is a soldier. he was wearing combat fatigues. again, all these people that were injured, it's still unclear exactly what the motive was. it's not clear that they haven't ruled out terrorism or any other motives. so far, they have not found any kind of indication that this individual had any nexus to terrorism, but it is something that they're going to be investigating in the next few days. he did use a semiautomatic handgun and appears to have inju

evan perez is our justice reporter. you've been watching what's going on.what else are you hearing? >> wolf, we know that federal agencies have now activated. they're now en route to try to assist local authorities and the military officials who are obviously going to be responsible for securing this situation and try to figure out how many casualties there are, how many shooters or if there was more than one shooter. and we are told that there is at least one casualty. that federal authorities know of at least one casualty, but we don't know the status of that person. we also do not know whether the shooter is still on the loose, whether that person has been put down. this is a very fluid situation and takes some time especially for federal authorities to determine what is happening. >> we just spoke to a private on base who says the sirens are still going off. >> the base is on lockdown. we know it will take them a while to go through the buildings to determine there's no further danger. >> we're all concerned as a result of what happened back in 2009 wit
