evans is now ordered to pay back the money. her husband and brother await sentencing after they also pleaded guilty. two schools here in illinois are among 55 colleges under investigation for their handling of sexual abuse complaints. the university of chicago and knox college are on a list released by the u-s department of education. schools risk losing federal funds if they mishandle complaints of sexual violence or harassment. a u-of-c student told the tribune that she reported being attacked by a fellow student, but instead of investigating, a dean held a mediation session between them. other schools under investigation include: michigan. indiana, and harvard. federal investigators in springfield are now looking into governor quinn's controversial anti-violence program. the 55-million-dollar initiative was launched during quinn's re-election campaign, four years ago. it was touted as a response to the violence in some of chicago's most dangerous neighborhoods. but it's been criticized as a slush fund, and a political show.

evan perez standing by.d kyung and sara why officials are hesitating to release the name, because clearly there's some video, they're looking at various tapes that are giving them insights into the possible gunman. what are you hearing from your sources about the individual who may have done this? >> right, deb. i think one of the things that happens, especially in these types of situations, is they want to be absolutely sure. now, we do know that they've identified the bmw, the black bmw that was at the scene there and where the gunman was pulled out of. we also know that obviously they've retrieved his driver's license and that is just part of the process that they're going through. now, u.s. law enforcement, federal law enforcement is now on the scene. the atf is there to help the santa barbara sheriff's office do the gun trace. we know that they're heading to the gun shop perhaps where they believe he bought this firearm, so these are things that they're going to have to work through over the next few ho

how are the federal resources becoming part of the investigation, evan perez?is lending its crime lab. the atf is on the scene. they are trying to see if they can trace the gun. and what they would be doing is try to figure out where the suspect would have gotten the gun. we don't know much more about that right now. it is something that i'm sure the officers on the scene and justice department officials on the scene are trying to figure out. obviously, according to the sheriff's office, there was some premeditation to this. the suspect appeared to be just going through isla vista and shooting at the crowds of people gathered there. right now, they are trying to figure out what would have drove him to do this. going through his tv records and computer records and doing any searches at his house. the key part here is the gun. try to figure out where he got this. >> so, evan, the sheriff said we are analyzing written and videotaped evidence that suggest the atrocity was a premeditated mass murder. do we know specifically what they are looking at and what has caug

evan, we want to start with you. we know that there are some federal resources that have become part of this investigation. what do we know that maybe they've learned, as we've heard from the sheriff, about the suspect? >> well, victor, this morning, this is exactly what they're trying to do. they're trying to figure out what they can -- what they can glean from the social media, from his writings, from this video that we know the law enforcement authorities are looking at, because they want to figure out whether or not how much planning went into this, what the motivation might have been. obviously, the suspect is dead, according to the police. so he can't say anything anymore. but he left behind a lot of information that authorities are going to be trying to figure out. one of the other things that the federal authorities are involved in is trying to trace the handgun, the semiautomatic handgun recovered from the scene. there is a great deal of resources there, because the atf and the fbi can help use their crime l
