the american journalist evan gershkovich is to face trial in russia on charges of espionage. for the wall streetjournal. he has been accused of working for the cia, and collecting secret information on a tank factory. the us government says he was "wrongfully detained" and says it is working to secure his release. earlier, we heard from our russia editor steve rosenberg. more than 1a months in pre—trial detention, and today, the prosecutor's office issued a short statement saying that mr gershkovich's case will now be sent to court and go to trial — not in moscow — but will be heard by the sverdlovsk regional court, in yekaterinburg, 1,000 miles away — that's the city where the american journalist was arrested last year. what else did prosecutors say? they claim that he had been working for the cia and collecting information about a russian tank factory. now all along, evan gershkovich, his employer, the wall streetjournal, the us government have vehemently denied the charge of espionage — they say he was simply doing his job as a journalist. and, of course, we've had respons

today's cnn's evan perez is outside the court, this morning. he joins me now. evan, tell us more about this new filing and these photos. what work can you tell us? >> well, jim, this is an attempt by the special counsel to push back on the former president's legal team. what they're arguing that because some of the documents in those boxes that were taken from mar-a-lago back in august of 2022. the order in which those documents were found had changed age as a result of the investigation that this affects are hurts his ability to mount a defense. and so what you're seeing there in some of these new photographs, you'll see once that were taken by walt nauta, it looks like something out of the show, harder's right where you see these boxes sitting in a closet they're in a room with them spilling out of the boxes. there's also boxes that show classified documents intermingled with a news clippings. and another one, a document or a letter written from the white house on whitehouse stationary 2 families from the sandy hook. and so what the special counsel is saying

evan: the u.s., and as asset managers, we have to think of it in terms of risk management as opposed to trying to pitch for a different outcome. i don't know that the election is going to have a meaningful impact on the fed's decision-making. there is a lot of data between now and september, if we see the market continue to cool, they will go in september, and the election will not stop that. i think after that, seeing what the fiscal situation is and where tariffs are, then they will have to take a step back and maybe it means that they don't cut as much as they originally planned, independent of the election. annmarie: if you don't position for the horserace, how do you hedge for all the risks you are concerned about? evan: i think the dollar it has been remains the best risk hedge for a lot of scenarios, and if you think of a broad equity bond portfolio, those moments where you get an inflation surprise or concerns about yields rising too much in the u.s., we are now concerned about trump, tariff

so mark the jury that evans going through, right. >> this is crucial. this jury at the face of it, we know six minutes and six women. the majority of them are african american as evan just laid out, you've got a woman who said she's lost many friends to drug addiction on the jury gun owners on the jury, one who believes people who smoke pot should be allowed to own firearms and obviously, a hunter biden purchasing a gun while under the influence of drugs is at the center for this case. so when you look at this jury, mark, what do you see good jury for the defense. >> one de mostly democratic we know that african african-americans or blacks, are generally democratic on, but they're also delaware into that's the right term, which means they are from the state that no, the bidens but the violence and violence have done a lot for delaware. so in that sense, this is a good place for biden to try the case. and this is a good juror to try and in front of ryan. that is true. i mean, i lived in delaware for years and it is biden country. i mean, there's no one t
