uto industry was really focused on new ev's, and new models. the ford f-150 ev is $100,000 vehicle. nobody make a $20,000 entry-level ev that could've perhaps forestalled the arrival of this chinese competition? >> it's interesting you $700,000, because i believe that's how much ford is losing on every ev they sell on a net basis. so, it's pretty bad. to answer your question what happened was we had a decade of low interest rates. vehicle prices crept up. so lantus is a notorious example with increased prices from 2019 all he way to 2024 by about 50%. what you had was ou had this decade of zero interest rates. people are fording more expensive vehicles, and cheap vehicles were simply not a thing anymore. american consumer got hooked on luxury vehicles, bigger vehicles, more options, more features. guess what? interest rates are not zero anymore. today i tweeted yesterday actually that the interest rate on a car today is a nearly 10% on a new car. that's a 20 plus year record. you're in an environment where consumer expectations need to retract. people can't afford this. but, we felt

the ev start act.r industry is grateful to both senators for the long- standing leadership on ev policy and the recognition that the policy will make the roads safer. our organization was excited to see evs specifically called out. the working group encouraged committee action on a federal framework for the testing and deployment across all modes of transportation and this is particularly important for the competitors in the chinese communist party. there is a strong interest for the department of increase safety on american roads. we need action in key areas. for example, a proposed rule on nounced in july, 2023. they present an opportunity to ty and accessibility. it will encourage deployment of next-generation vehicles and open up a wealth of data to make progress toward establishing an effective government structure. another example where d.o.t. should take immediate action is from granting the request allowing ev trucks to have alternative warning devices when a vehicle is stopped on the roadside.

we are seeing it now in ev's.nveil new tariffs on china next week targeting key sectors including ev's, batteries, and solar panels. josh wingrove joins us now for more. fantastic story, enjoyed their media. what are you and the team learning about what we may hear next week? josh: right now we are just trying to figure out the scope of this. this has been going on for some time. since 2022 they been doing this review. the question was how high with a ratchet it up, when they offset it with the client and other less critical sectors to try to make it a wash? doesn't look like that will be the case. certain key sectors will see tariffs rise either from existing levels, or from zero, depending on what they are, including electric vehicles, solar cells, batteries. we don't know the levels that they will go to. on the flipside, other tariffs are pretty much maintained. no offsetting declines of some of those original trump tariffs. biden is looking to go tougher on china while also stopping short of what trump wanted,
