i have lived in the excelsior since 1999. i have had lots of different jobs, but my main job is doing social work force and a disco, i have been a community organizer, i worked at a labor organization supporting janitor's working in our high- rise buildings. i was a legislative aide before .wr. i got to see how it all work from the outside, community organizations supporting young people, children, families, working for labor, and saw how city hall could be an effective tool for change and then considered running in 2007, 2008, and somehow, i made it. >> you were raised in los angeles, moved to the east coast. what made you want to come back and live in san francisco? >> i love cities. i never felt like i lived in a city in los angeles, but when i lived in massachusetts, where i live, i was close to boston. i had such a great time in boston but i did not like massachusetts so much because it was cold, the culture was foreign to me. when i came to san francisco, the first time i came, there was a rainbow over the bay and there

we are the excelsior. i want to make sure there is a distinction. we are very distinct neighborhoods and we have our own personalities and while we appreciate the work they do is in the mission. that being said, i am all about economic justice but we need to be careful when we start crafting legislation about big bucks realty. in district 11, we have to merchant corridors that are barren. there is no activity. we have the excelsior corridor. i think -- lots of old stores. the kids are selling their property. we have dollar stores and wonderful fruit stands but we have no anchor stores. the purpose for having big box coming in is they are critical. i am excited about the work that jobs for justice coalition has put together. they have targeted the importance of being a caucus that look at things. not just there is too many so we cannot have any. i am hoping that in the process of doing this overhaul, and just to give you an example. there is a gazillion starbucks downtown but there is not a starbucks within a mile of the district 11 border. within th

he used to sit at the excelsior mcdonald's in the morning and a genius to preschool. now, they are in first. the class is. david, congratulations. [applause] >> this one is for my dad in heaven and my mom and my brothers. i want to say that when i got my first teaching job for the peace corps in morocco, i never thought i would come back to the united states, and i took a lot of teaching jobs and climbed all over the world, and they sometimes intervene in the very same way. 14 years ago, i was allowed to interview in high school that nobody wanted to go to in san francisco, and a net even inspired fear in some community members, and that was balboa. i want to tell you that it was the best place for me at the time, and it is still the best place. i think it has become one of the best high schools, and it is because of all the teachers and students who have been there in the last 14 years and sort of made it what it was. i would not wish to be anywhere else. thank you. hunters point alone accounts for more children than any other is a good, and the mission and the excelsior district also includes a significant number of children, and those services are being cut -- more children than any others. we need to -- supervisor mirkarimi: thank you. next speaker. >> my name is bestseller. i am a manager research san francisco residents with low to middle income -- my name is nsl -- estelle. i am a labor partner and i strongly support their plans to build earthquakes and hospitals. we hope all the legal issues are mitigated in regards to this project and strongly support our job-seekers and employers moving forward. and under this project, one company invested time and personnel to help us revamp an update our training program. and they helped us with the lessons covering the big picture and the sequence of work for 13 weeks of instruction, and they did this simply because we asked for their help. however, we also provided 13 industry experts to facilitate the lessons throughout the semester. with their help, they a provided much care and thought, and they really
