organizers of the rally, originally planned to shut down the dan ryan expressway. the protest was rerouted through chicago's south side. omar jimenez is on the scene for us. it's pretty dramatic what's going on. omar is joining us on the phone. the organizers worked with law enforcement to coordinate the shutdown of the expressway. tell us what's going on? what has happened? >> that's how the days start. the protests were supposed to go on the dan ryan expressway. as it's known here in chicago. they rerouted it and worked towards downtown. some of the clashes we're seeing right now, it's a different type of clash, because they're clashing with new security protocols that have been put in place over the past week in chicago. last week, we saw images of people looting and breaking into businesses in the downtown area. so in response, the mayor and police department have really made extreme efforts to protect this part of the city. they raised the bridges in downtown so access is tougher. they've closed access over the overnight hours. they instituted a curfew. these
