and what's really happened with the faa is they've been asked to do so much more.hey're doing space launches and drones and far more certification work, without an increase in their budget at the same time, and so those resources have come out of the day to day operation. and i think what we all need to do, is what i told the secretary yesterday when we spoke, is work in the next faa reauthorization bill to get the air traffic control system staffed. we've invested billions of dollars in the infrastructure around this country, and we wind up with air traffic control delays for one or two sick calls that have impact of hundreds of flight delays or can have impacts of hundreds of delays or cancellations. and so those are the kinds of issues that i think still remain to be resolved, and we all should work together to do that. it's nobody's fault that we're here, but we are where we are, and we should work together to really get the faa resourced appropriately. and to say that we have the same number of controllers or fewer controllers today than we did 30 years ago ju

in 2021, the faa reported a record 5980 one incidents of -- 5981 incidents of unruly passenger behavior. this has been directed at tso's themselves, passengers, flight crew and other workers. in many cases, these employees have been physically assaulted, resulting in broken bones, lost teeth and long-term injuries would prevent them from returning to work. while the behavior is unacceptable on its own and congress must do more to protect these employees it is paramount , that the current crisis does not escalate even further to the point of gun violence. as of the chair mentioned earlier, right now, it demonstrates how real the threat is with 6000 guns compensated over the last year at security checkpoints. 86% of the guns or loaded and -- were loaded and many had around in the chamber. that broke the previous record set in 2019 by 1500 weapons. it came at a time when domestic travel was still below what it was at pre-pandemic levels. this underscores the essential role of tso's in maintaining aviation safety. we support airport authorities , local law enforcement and the federal govern
