was a ruling by the supreme court but said its private universities did not want to recognize faculty unions, they did not after. yeshiva university. the case said that faculty was like management, so they need not be recognized as a unit. public university campuses, unionization is one of the fastest-growing areas of organized labor right now in the country. you have a situation where the unions have recognized the manufacturing base is shrinking and the private union base is shrinking. so public-sector white-collar jobs are where the growth will happen. you saw some of this. people were little surprise during the fight about wisconsin a few months ago, to hear that there actually were unions of professors at the university of wisconsin. unions are generally something we think of asking for people who are in jobs where they can really be exploited, where maybe people are not as educated. and yet it is really growing in higher education. so that is one big difference. i think you are seeing the effects of that. unions at the bargaining table will mean less distinctions in terms of merit pay.
