fairfax county asked voters for a tax hike to fund its schools.obtained by fox 5 paints a different picture. after potomac high principal alex case and michelle lied el were put on leave for reasons unknown, we did an open records request for more information. we found the pair had a busy travel schedule. just since july, they got approval for three out of state trips. the total cost, nearly $12,000. there was a trip to orlando for an educational convention attended by others from the district as well. then a trip to $900 for each room at the tropicana. they were set to make a trip to arizona in february for another conference. the assistant superintendent approved more than $2500 for each to attend. that trip though was cancelled after case and lied el were put on leave. the district said all travel procedures were properly followed including preapproval in these particular instances. but no one from fairfax county schools would speak on camera about whether this kind of jet setting is typical. what we do know is if every principal and assistant

arlington, fairfax county and prince william's county schools said no, not changing plan, school will go on as scheduled. however, some of the school systems tell us they're monitoring the situation. dc schools also will be open. a spokesperson said we'll some people may want to support international women's day all students and staff expected to be in school. montgomery county schools also plan to be open. >>> we you uncovered thousands of dollars in travel costs for two fairfax county employees paid for. alex case and assistant principal michelle light el were both put on leave, case resigned. county refused to say why or explain anything about this. according to travel records obtained by fox 5, case and light el got approval for three out of state trips in the fast eight months cost nearly $12,000. they released a statement that said all travel procedures were properly followed including preapproval in these particular instances. by the way the travel budget for this year is $1.4 million. superintendent has now recommended cutting that by half million for the next school year. >>>
