wossen assaye was arrested by the fbi for a series of bank robberies in fairfax county and our region. mr. assaye was detained in the alexandria city jail. on march 27th, mr. assaye attempted suicide in his cell. he was then eventually transport to inova fairfax hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injuries. while at the hospital the united states marshal service that coordinated the transportation had a private security contracted firm maintain custody of mr. assaye. at 3:00 this morning mr. assaye got into a struggle with one of the security guards and a round was discharge from the security guard's weapon. it's unknown at this time who fire the round, but fortunately no one was reported to be injured. mr. assaye then fled with the weapon into a nearby residential neighborhood where he then broke into the trunk of a resident's vehicle. the resident came out of their house and was proceeding to -- proceeding to commute to work. while commuting to work, in the area of the hospital, mr. assaye started to kick out the back seat from inside the trunk. the vehicle then crashed and

fairfax county police identified both homicide victims whose bodies were found on monday. the 19-year-old's body was found in a creek before 5:00 p.m. friday off ivy mount court in annandale. that discovery came four hours after someone found the body of 22-year-old william reevis body in herndon. not clear whether the two cases may be connected. those homicides come as we learn that crime dropped last year in fairfax county by about 2 1/2%. but the number of homicides increased from eight in 2013 to 10 last year. overall, crimes against people like violent crimes were down 4%. the biggest increase, fraud. that jumped 26% to 3700 cases. as for the crimey to affect people theft. that impacted just over 1% of fair a bladensburg man will spend 3 1/2 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman near georgetown university. the man in this picture is christopher wallace. he pleaded guilty to last april's attack in glover archibald park. the victim went to police and was able to describe wallace and a tattoo on his hand in detail. wallace has to register as a sex offender once

jummy, still an active situation here on lenore lane and james drive in the alexandria section of fairfax county. fairfax police still putting together the pieces of exactly what did happen here. they believe it was an attempted burglary. it happened about 8:40 this morning. police say a man was attempting to break into a home when he was shot in the upper body. the suspect then fled on foot down to telegraph road where he tried to get on a bus. but as that was happening an officer on his way to the scene noticed the suspect and took him into custody. the suspect transported to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries and has not yet been charged. the home owner was not injured during the break-in. >> i think it's very shocking, you know, i've lived here for over a year and stuff and normally the neighborhood is pretty quiet. reporter: now, police will not definitively say that the home owner shot the suspect in this situation but they will say that the gun has been recovered and it does belong to the home owner who has been cooperative with authorities. we hope to have more information as

in fairfax county, diane cho, abc 7 news. leon: right now, a burglary suspect is in the hospital after fairfax county police say a home owner shot him. this was along lenore lane in huntington. the home owner was inside the place at the time. and he asked only to be identified in the story as mr. king. mr. king said he told the burglar to stop and when the man kept trying to get in mr. king said he had no other choice but to shoot. >> >> i was just shaken and i was really terrified. i didn't know if i was going to even hit the guy. i didn't aim to shoot to kill him or nothing. leon: the suspect ran and flagged down a school bus for help and that's when a nearby officer arrested him. he's currently recovering in the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. a big police presence today in silver spring after reports of shots fired. abc 7 counted at least a dozen officers along with a k-9 unit at the apartment complex on featherwood street. an officer on the scene told us that someone fired a shot into the air during a fight.

leon: 600 new jobs coming to fairfax county. the virginia governor terry mcauliffe announced today that the navy federal credit union will invest nearly $115 million to expand its headquarters operation in vienna. that includes constructing a 233,000 square foot office building as well. governor mcauliffe approved a million dollar grant to help with that project. alison: b.w.i. airport is undergoing a $105 million expansion. maryland and airport officials say the investment will support the airport's growing international traffic and provide additional amenities for passengers. that includes a new security checkpoint, a connector between concourses b and e and two new gates for international carriers. the multiphase project is set to be completed in 2017. leon: amazon prime expanding its one hour delivery service. prime now is now available in parts of baltimore and miami. new york city is the only other city where it's been offered. this one hour service can be used by amazon prime subscribers through a mobile app for $7.99. tw
