it was like walking through another door into some fantasyland that you've never ever had ever dreamed about. i couldn't believe it when i walked through the sally port, first of all, heard all of the yelling and screaming and pure pandemonium. i was shocked when i walked through, but i was even more shocked when this tall, lanky young man whose eyes i couldn't see because the brim of his cap was down over his nose, but he was yelling and screaming at me to drop my bag, pick it up, do this. of course he told me my three answers, yes, sir, no, sir, no excuse, sir. gave me instructions to post to the man with the red sash. and i did that. somehow got through the first day. walked in to -- in the old barracks, met my new classmates, new roommates. we said hello and we crashed. and that was about what our day was all about, so. >> and after that, how was your summer? >> it was pandemonium and all hell and, frankly, i didn't much care for it. i don't think anybody did in those days. >> sure. >> the things i remember most probably are uniform changes. just after dinner they would get us out
