at seven key industries in north carolina come natural resource industries like tobacco and heart farley, traditional manufacturing furniture or textiles, it also high-tech industries like biotechnology or information technology or banks and finance. every state in the country has critical industries they care about. if we start looking at supply chain from the bottom-up and each state says here's the industries we care about, there are things we can learn from supply chain research about how to do that kind of mapping and i gave some examples in the written testimony. final point and some of the recommendations, i noticed what's important is how universities get tied into the initiatives that this committee and this legislation is talking about. i think in the u.s. -- usica there's a critical emphasis on technology directorate as way to perhaps focus some of these efforts. i would applaud that. that's going to add applied research to the kind of basic research that nsf does but nsf also tries to get universities involved in this research. one thing i would recommend is if we think about
