it happened about 1:30 this morning right near happy valley road in la fayette.are investigators telling you, tara. >> reporter: the chp is blaming a wrong-way drunk driver. it is possible that she drove the wrong way through the tunnel before slamming into a car head on. about an hour ago, the suspect was taken into the martinez detention facility. she is in the process of being booked for felony dui. the chp says the 20-year-old brentwood woman was driving the wrong way on highway 24 near the exit around 1:30 this morning. she slammed her silver toyota head on into a red geo metro. the damage to the victim's car was horrific. the engine completely separated from the car. the fire department says they had take the top off to get the victim off but it was too late. he had died. >> it does look like alcohol did play a role in this. drunk driving is the worst, to go out there and drink and drive and use irresponsibility and injure other people by your actions. and she probably didn't even have any idea of what had happened. at this point, i don't think she did. >>
