but we're still seeing fdny on the scene, many fdny fire trucks, and we've seen bomb dogs go by as well, searching the area, perhaps for any other devices or any explosive devices in the area. we do have a witness that we met, as soon as we got here on the scene. her name is solei. you were just with us. if you can just explain to the our viewers one more time what you saw. you had just gotten off the bus, and just explain to everybody back home what you witnessed? >> i just got off of the crosstown bus on 23rd street, on 7th avenue. and i went into a convenience store to get a magazine. i came outside and i heard boom. and it was so huge and it didn't sound -- didn't seem normal. and i saw a big cloud of smoke. i don't know where it was coming from. it looked like it was in the middle of the street. and it was shaking. it was shaking my body. it was shaking -- it was very forceful. and it didn't seem like it was going to stop. i knew that it was something -- something was very wrong. people started to running from 23rd street around the corner and i ran with them. and we all came over

it was a reminder of my 343 guys. >> but the fdny had other plans for him. >> i thought for sure i'dst so many guys in lower manhattan, i'm going to ask you to stay. stay for two years and help us out down there to rebuild. rebuild the fire department. get us back to where we were. so i did. and after two years was up, i stayed. i became a battalion chief, and i watched the fire houses grow again. and it was like a breath of fresh air to see the young guys coming back into the fire house again. it took years and years for us to rebuild and to get back to where we were. >> quite a view. >> he's now in charge of all seven fire companies in lower manhattan. >> 15 years flew by, and now you look at the entire landscape down here has changed so fast, so rapidly. the high rises that are going up, one building is bigger than the next. seems like they can't build them big enough and can't build them fast enough. we're looking at new ways of getting the firemen up faster to the fires. there's that many more people in the building to worry about. >> worrying about the public safety is also fro

the fdny tells me that the explosion took place on 23rd and sixth avenue.ou can come over here. thank you so much. what was your name again? >> my name sl solie, can you tell our viewers exactly what you saw. you were on a bus, you had just gotten off a bus. and then this happened. explain everything from start to finish. >> i just got off the cross town 23rd, 23 bus on seventh avenue. i went in to get a back stable. i came out, and i heard boom, boom, and everything started shaking. and there was big mounds of smoke, and people started running. and i started running with them. down seventh avenue. and that's what happened. >> anybody injured around you? what did you see in terms of a big plumes of smoke. >> people frantic. people were frantic and they were just running, running, and people on this street, 24th street came running out of their apartments, because it shook them in their apartments. and some people were at their jobs. >> explain to people how loud this was. >> it sounded like -- the fire works, but a thousand times stronger and it shook every

the fbi is here as well as the nypd and fdny. they've created a very large perimeter in the neighborhood. again, this is a very residential neighborhood and kind of the middle of lower manhattan. and so right now they're still treating it as an active scene. i've been here so i haven't seep the video of what happened. but while the press conference was going on, the mayor and the police commissioner indicated that there were reports about, as lester said, another potential device or another potential concern four blocks north of this site on 27th street between sixth and seventh avenues and 27th street between sixth and seventh avenues is a much more residential block. it's a one-way street. it runs east to west. it's a street that has a series of very large, large, 30, 40-story apartment buildings. so that's sort of where we are right now. >> councilman, i know that the cell phone connection may be in and out and our communication a little bit touch and go as we go. i do ask you one final question before we let you go. is there
